If Carson Wentz wants out to avoid being the scapegoat for an organization lead by an unqualified executive who sabotaged him at every turn with awful draft picks, then drafted his replacement in the 2nd round eight months after signing him to a long term deal, can you blame him?
Let’s be honest, Eagles fans. Winning a Super Bowl was always going to be special. Beating Tom Brady in perhaps his best statistical Super Bowl with a backup quarterback made the story an all timer in NFL history.
You know what’s disrespectful to the greater game? Encouraging an atmosphere where everyone in your locker room was taking PEDs and making the record book a joke. But hey, Bryce Harper said some words...
“It’s disrespectful to the Angels and to the greater game to start trying to influence a guy’s future ahead of time.”
- Tony La Russa on Bryce Harper’s recruitment of Mike Trout
No matter what the Eagles get back for Wentz, remember this: the genius of a GM created this entire mess with a bad contract, a sabotaged draft pick to undermine the contract and made the organization look like fools.
Hey Twitter- if you could spare a good thought or prayer today for my Mom, who is in the hospital battling some challenges. She’s as caring a person as you can find, wears her Jason Kelce jersey every Sunday and is a battler. Thanks.
What Jay Wright has built at Villanova has been the most unique thing in Philadelphia sports history. Consistent excellence and a system that isn’t dependent on individual pieces, but an overall philosophy that gets complete buy-in
Let’s see:
-04 Eagles
-09 Phillies
-87 Flyers
-10 Phillies
-80 Flyers (35 g without a loss)
-77 76ers
-11 Phillies
I’m running out of characters and I have like 5 more teams to name before 01 Sixers
Best tribute I can give to Ray Didinger and
@RealGlenMacnow
- Sat in Home Depot lot listening to Ray’s final essay. When it was over, 10 to 15 guys seemed to all get out of their cars simultaneously.
We always say about how sports can lift a city. The Phillies and Eagles certainly don’t make the crime or economic issues go away. Nobody should say that. But if you were in South Philly tonight and saw strangers high-fiving and hugging for just a moment, you kind of get it.
I love the hypocrisy of Mike Greenberg, who openly cheered for the Jets to go tank for Trevor Lawrence - calling the Eagles a disgrace. Glass houses. Not saying the Eagles were completely right- but check your own crap
When my dad was diagnosed with cancer in ‘14, Phil Martelli reached out & asked if there was anything he or
@PhillyCvC
could do. When I was let go by Courier in ‘17, he reached out again with words of support. So maybe I’m biased, but it’s sad to see a good man leave like this.
This would be a great time for NBC Sports Philly to show classic Phillies, Sixers, Flyers games in its entirety, original broadcast without any alterations.
The Nationals are insisting on split doubleheaders to get every gate dollar possible during a 100-loss season which may draw about 8,000 people today. And MLB is letting them get away with it, risking a complete schedule nightmare.
I’m actually excited to see Jalen Hurts get more reps, so the people who think he’s the second coming of Steve Young can realize he’s nothing more than another bad draft pick by this guy
Disappointment that the NBC crew didn’t address the Clowney hit once as a potential cheap shot or missed call. Have a discussion. Being Terry Macaulay in. Just a really awful broadcast.
To the person at the Wawa at Frankford and Academy who returned my wallet in full after it fell out of my sweatshirt tonight in the parking lot: thank you for reaffirming there’s good in the world still.
I’m close to 50 years old. I’ve watched a lot of sports in this town - as a reporter and a fan.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a better player wear a Philadelphia uniform in the big moment than Bryce Harper.
So let’s recap: Maddox has Prescott clearly in grasp. If he slams him down or someone comes up to finish it, good chance it’s a flag. Instead, play continues and Dak completes first down pass
It is possible to think that Carson Wentz is acting like a spoiled brat by lacking the will to fight for his job back AND believe the Eagles front office is a bunch of idiots who never surrounded him with weapons and hired his replacement nine months after a contract extension.
As someone who has lived here my whole life: I’m so thankful that Philadelphia found baseball and some joy again these past five weeks. If that’s the legacy of 2022- it’s not a bad one at all.
Rick Kranitz was fired by the Phillies to promote Chris Young to pitching coach.
Rick Kranitz is now a pitching coach of a Braves team heading to the NLCS with a historic playoff ERA despite losing its best starter midway through an abbreviated season.
Draw your own conclusion
My annual plea to city leaders: Make the 4th of July celebration here better. An all day festival at Independence Mall. Fireworks from river to river. Better concerts. Have the Phillies play at 11 am at CBP. The holidays started here- take ownership of it.
What’s gonna suck is two weeks of the national media implying only reason Eagles won is the 49ers quarterback situation. The reason they are winning is they are physically pummeling the Niners
Scene: It is 2026 and the Eagles are coming off their sixth sub- five win season.
Meanwhile, one host will still continue to say “Howie did win a Super Bowl in 2017... that should count for something.”
Actual person on Philadelphiasports radio right now: “Seahawks are coming here for the first time it feels like in 73 years”
Seattle was here twice last season- five weeks apart
I love NBC Philly commercials trying to spin Phillies-Giants on Peacock as some Fathers Day treat for dads. Hi dad- spend a relaxing weekend cursing at trying to find your favorite game.
It's sad to see what the old Comcast SportsNet is becoming. For the first decade-plus of its life, it was high end productions with awesome people. There are still some great people there, but the approach they have is completely wrong for this market
As a son of a former police officer, I say this to my TV news colleagues- I’m not sure showing tactical movements of police live in a hostage/shooting situation is the right move for anyone’s safety.
Because when you are basically eliminated, you have to bring the older, most broken down and expensive players back in order to prevent evaluation of younger receivers who may be useful next year
JUST IN: The Philadelphia Eagles have activated wide receiver DeSean Jackson off injured reserve in anticipation he'll play in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
You realize that the last time the Sixers advanced past the second round, the Spectrum still stood along with The Vet while CBP and Lincoln Financial Field were not even steel skeletons.
Thanks to all for the prayers and well wishes yesterday. My Mom is hanging in there this AM and battling. Long road ahead with a lot of ups and downs, but still in the fight.
There’s no other way to say it: I loved
@BigDaddyGraham
. Sitting at the 4th and Market studio on overnights was a joy, filled with laughter and some deep off air conversations. So sad this morning to hear of his passing, but he will be fondly remembered.
You could leave Citizens Bank Park at first pitch, get on the turnpike, drive to Pittsburgh and arrive for the end of the game and to realize Primanti Bros sandwiches are way overrated.
So, this will be in a few threads... bear with me. Today, I accepted a job at Rosemont College to be their new Sports Information Director. I’m thrilled that I could join the entire staff - including
@CoachBarney
. They made me feel right at home.
Wife: "I'm watching the Royal Wedding in the morning."
Me: "Why are you getting up at that obscene hour on a Saturday?"
Wife: "Why did you keep watching the Super Bowl for weeks afterwards?"
Me: (silence)
For those Eagles fans considering not going to tonight's game because of the weather, I'll make the argument that catching deadly strands of pneumonia is preferable to listening to these guys.
I should say this before the Toronto bubble shuts down: the crew of John Forsland, Brian Boucher and Jonesy has been really incredible to listen to. When Doc hangs it up, that should be the main NBC crew.
