The founding member of Super Étoile who died last night will be buried this Wednesday at the Yoff cemetery. Who was he? L’Observateur summarized his career as an artist by announcing his death in its edition of the day. 1. Six years after Habib Faye Jimmy Mbaye, charismatic guitarist of Super Étoile, died this night from Tuesday to Wednesday at the Clinique de la Madeleine in Dakar. He will be buried at the Yoff cemetery, this Wednesday, February 12, after the body is removed at the Principal hospital at 2:30 p.m. Six years after bassist Habib Faye, who left on April 25, 2018, Youssou Ndour’s Super Étoile loses another icon. 2. Mamadou Mbaye Jimmy Mbaye died at 68. He was born Mamadou Mbaye one day in 1957. His stage name is a tribute to Jimi (with only one m and i instead of y) Hendrix (1942-1970), ranked by Time Magazine among the 10 best electric guitar players of all time (August 2009). 3. From fishing line-cans to the Fender Stratocaster The guitarist of Super Étoile was an electric specialist, like Hendrix. The first model of his favorite instrument, a Fender Stratocaster, he got it at 18 years old. Eight years earlier, at only 10 years old, he bought his first guitar that he made himself with fishing line and cans. Three years later, his big brother, El Hadji, no doubt sensitive to his younger brother's enthusiasm, gave him an acoustic guitar as a gift. 4. Super Étoile Apart from a brief interlude of a few years, Jimmy Mbaye and Youssou Ndour have never left each other since 1979, the year the guitarist joined Super Étoile. Before that, the Hendrix disciple played in the African Band and the Dagoudane Band. 5. Three albums Jimmy Mbaye was a guitarist, but also a singer. He has three albums to his credit: Dakar Heat (1997), Yaye Digalma (2004) and Khare Dounya (2012). He is also known for having collaborated with many younger Senegalese artists such as Waly Seck and Pape Diouf. Story by Seneweb

Dr. Ismaila Ceesay Spotted in Kiang as Masembeh By-Election Heats Up Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, leader and secretary general of the Citizens Alliance, was seen in Kiang alongside the National People's Party (NPP) candidate and campaign manager, Lamin Cham, as the ruling party ramps up efforts ahead of the Massembeh ward councilor by-election. Triggered by the passing of the previous United Democratic Party (UDP) councilor, the by-election has turned into a closely contested race between the NPP and UDP. As the campaign gains momentum, Dr. Ceesay and other prominent political figures and government officials are actively engaging with voters, rallying support, and solidifying NPPs' presence in the region. Though a local contest, the Massembeh by-election is widely regarded as a significant political barometer, offering insight into the country's evolving political landscape. Photo: Zoom Africa TV
