The Dongo Kundu Bypass is part of the Mombasa Port Area Road Development project road in Mombasa and Kwale Counties. It starts at the Mwache Interchange and ends at Dongo Kundu at a place called Mwangala on the South Mainland.

The Makupa Bridge is estimated to be 457-meter long
two four-lane parallel bridges with a width of 20 metres each, an extra two-metre rail for non-motorised traffic and a pedestrian footpath.

Makupa Bridge has been under construction since April 2021 was scheduled for completion this April, a finish time that will now be exceeded by 2months.
It will pave the way for the demolition of Makupa Causeway, which will see Mombasa reverting to its natural status as an island.
