There is a big difference between recruiting those with low IQ (lower mental group: less than a 31 on the ASVAB) and those without a HS Diploma. Generally someone without a HS Diploma must be an "Upper Mental Group", those with greater than a 50 on the ASVAB.

My SO is a teacher and she thinks it crazy for teachers to be armed. I spent my life in the military and have had tons of training so I can easily see myself carrying a gun and neutralizing a threat entering a classroom. The thing is, not a lot of people like me go into teaching.
