New work out with @lumosmaximma and @SciStrader on the response of Acropora hyacinthus to a severe marine heatwave in Moorea 🪸
Adding another piece to this story.🪸 We also did ITS2 amplicon sequencing of Acropora hyacinthus corals during the 2019 bleaching event and after recovery. Not surprisingly, resistant and recovered corals hosted different genera of symbionts.

Our new paper out today in @GlobalChangeBio. We show that a severe marine heatwave in Moorea, French Polynesia in 2019 drove disproportionate mortality of the largest, most fecund corals and near-complete loss of newly-settled coral recruits.

Our new paper out today in @SciReports! We evaluated the consequences of bleaching on corals in Moorea. Corals that bleached and recovered had lower energy reserves and fecundity compared to corals that did not bleach. @lumosmaximma @SciStrader @rossin_ashley

🚨 NEW PAPER ALERT! This is the first of many papers from our #NSFfunded #BioOce RAPID grant on the 2019 Mo'orea coral bleaching event. We observed colonies of Acropora hyacinthus that were resistant to bleaching nearby colonies that bleached and recovered.
