I’ve determined that the probability I get asked on a 2nd date is negatively correlated with the amount of time I spend on the 1st date explaining the difference between micro and macro economics.
The job market was stressful, but I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. This summer I will be joining the

I couldn’t have done this without the professional (and emotional) support from my advisor

Everyone saying “drop if year==2020”, but honestly this pandemic is going to have so many lasting effects that what we probably need is a whole “post2020##” interaction!
Interviewer: So how did you make use of your time during quarantine?
Me: I cried and cuddled with my dog.

Me: I mean I watched NBER SI online.
If you had told me 7 years ago that I would one day present at NBER Health Care, I would have asked you 'What’s an NBER?'
So grateful for this opportunity to present my work, get feedback, and meet so many excellent health economists!
This is how my sister explains what I do to her 7th grade students:
“She looks at large amounts of numbers and explains it so it makes sense to small amounts of smart people”
Here’s a

story for ya...
When I was applying to grad schools my mom sent me $100 in the mail with a note that said “to cover all your application fees.”
I laughed because it only covered one application.
I cried because it only covered one application.
While there are excellent guides on the logistics of the econ job market, little is said about how to manage your mental health along the way. That’s where we come in!
How to Mentally Prepare for the Job Market- by

56 pages of blood, sweat, and tears- feels good to finally have a JMP draft that I feel confident enough to post online.
How do doctors diagnose ADHD? Is it different for males and females? I answer these and more at:
*Feedback always welcome!*
Imposter Syndrome didn’t really hit me until *after* I got my PhD.
I used to be just a student, but now I’m a doctor—finding it hard to fully accept that I guess.

The microeconomic research team is looking to hire another RA. So, if you want to work on some really cool research with some really cool people, APPLY!⬇️
When I look at the JOE listings, I am optimistic. Not because of # of jobs (those are down😐), but because I get a sense of excitement and curiosity when reading each listing. I don’t know what my future career will be, but I know I will be doing what I love 😃
My sister (7th grade teacher) is giving me advice on how to do a job talk over Zoom:
“Alright class- thumbs up if you understand my model, thumbs down if you need me to explain another way.”
I listened to this song 4 years ago before comprehensive exams and again today before my dissertation defense. I passed both times. Correlation or causation?

Can we start an economic journal where all the articles are summaries of projects that would otherwise be abandoned?
There is so much to learn from research questions with non-significant results, lack of necessary data, identification problems, etc.
Flight attendant: Is there a doctor on the plane?
Me: Yes, but I’m not that kind…
Flight attendant: The pilots need a group of people to overuse a meme on Twitter to the point of exhaustion.
Econ Twitter: Okay. We’re here.
Me last month: "Once the job market is over, I will finally have time to wrap up my dissertation and submit working papers."
Me today: *starts working on new research ideas and proposals
Anyway, today I woke up and ran 5k. It’s not the marathon I was training for, but it’s something. And so I start today with a smile, and I hope you do too. 😊 Happy Friday everyone!
Can someone create a LaTeX package that includes a dictionary of economic terms? I am tired of having endogeneity, equilibria, parameterized, and generalizability always flagged as errors.
After working on my JMP all day yesterday, I wanted a drink. But the bars are closed so instead I analyzed my twitter data and learned how to make animated graphs. Here ya go!
Now back to working on my JMP...
Honored to be included in this excellent lineup of scholars using machine learning to address topics in health care.
Interested? The presentations will be live-streamed today on the NBER YouTube channel! 12:20-4:40pm EST
New cases of child ADHD diagnosis *fell* due to COVID-19 pandemic factors (school closures & other societal disruptions) by 8.6% among boys and 11.0% among girls nationwide through Feb '21.

Yesterday I found out that my grant proposal was rejected, and I went straight to the cookie jar. Today I woke up with a stomachache and realized I could use a healthier coping mechanism. How do you all deal with rejection in academia and otherwise? Need some

advice!
I didn’t realize how much I needed a female economist role model until I had one. Shout out to
@ProfALanger
for helping me get through the job market, grad school, and life in general!
Today, let's also highlight the GOOD actors in economics. To get it started, I am grateful to Guido Imbens, who kept me from dropping out of graduate school,
@lkatz42
who serves as an advisor LONG after graduate school ended, and
@HilaryHoynes
, who I aspire to be.😊
Any

recommendations for electronic paper tablets that allow me to read, organize, and annotate PDFs without hurting my eyes?!
*pretty sure discussed on here before, but I can’t find the thread*
One of my biggest struggles with research is knowing when to stop working on a problem and ask for help.
I tend to wait until marginal returns per hours worked is 0, and surely that’s not optimal 🤷♀️
My goal was simple: measure the persuasive and informative effects of advertisements on demand.
So I asked myself, how do us economists define and empirically estimate persuasion? Turns out, the answer is not so simple. A thread 🧵
Every morning I wake early thinking I can get a run in before it gets too hot.
Every morning I wait around in bed until it gets too hot to run.
Something something time inconsistent preferences.
Hi
#EconTwitter
friends! I am putting together a session for
@ashecon
on projects related to 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵. If you (or someone you know) has an abstract that would fit into this session, let me know!
I was trying to think of the jargony word(s) I use most often (or have to stop myself from using), in "normal" conversation.
Exogenous/endogenous?
Ex-ante/ex-post?
Marginal?
What about you?
Results are in! 🚨
Based on RCT with n=4, teacher evaluations are higher if you bring students donuts the same day you remind them to take the survey. 🍩
