That No 10 might want to keep Cummings in post is one thing; but for Raab, Sunak and Gove to trash public trust and support for Lockdown rules in this way is absolutely breathtaking.
‘No, you can’t have a referendum, even if you voted for one. Yes, you will have a hard Brexit, even if you voted to remain.’ The Tories and Labour are suffocating democracy in Scotland. Me, on
@bbcsundayshow
Utter car crash of an interview with Sir Keith Starmer on

by turns evasive and patronising on democracy in Scotland. Also, “Freedom of movement has gone and it’s not coming back.” Really? Scotland wants the right to choose a different path.

And there it is. An SNP win!!!! In a “2 horse race between Labour and Tory”, the SNP win! Well done to
@VoteMcTaggart1
is the new Councillor for Clacks Central. Well done Jane!
Margaret Mitchell’s contribution yesterday was very poor but, as a former Standards Committee Convener I strongly feel that the behaviour of Murdo Fraser, Alec Cole-Hamilton and Jackie Baillie during the work of the Harassment Committee has been an absolute disgrace.
“most powerful devolved Parliament in the world’, they said, ‘respect agenda’ they said; ‘powers entrenched in law’. Now, cheered on by Tory MSPs, they are tearing our Parliament down, bit by bit. Our democracy is at stake, and only independence can guarantee Scotland’s rights.
Utterly bizarre interview with
@Jackson_Carlaw
on Sky. Asked “Why do you think Scotland has been more successful..that England” in dealing with Covid? Squirms awkwardly, then denies, then concedes the point, then says it’s cos virus hit Scotland later!! Tories all over the place.
Great deal of comment around UKGs refusal to extend furlough in Scotland, Wales & north of England, until south of England required it. But what is truly remarkable, is that Scots Tories argued against its extension in Scotland before now. Who do they represent?
Your Party partied while people died: they supported herd immunity and the cull of older people that entailed - ‘let the bodies pile high’ - you had nothing to say then. You have nothing credible to say now.
Disgraceful quotes from Nicola Sturgeon's ex-chief of staff.
This confirms what many already know - that the SNP exploited the pandemic to pick fights with the UK government.
On a beautiful day today we said goodbye to a beautiful soul, our Mum, Carole. Strong, resilient (widowed with 6 children at 29), intelligent and the source of unconditional love for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Bye Mum. x
Jackie Baillie talks of contempt for Parliament by John Swinney, but she is the one who has conducted herself disgracefully throughout the Committee’s inquiry and has, along with Messrs Fraser and Hamilton, acted contemptibly.
SNP now being blamed for lodging a motion that made Labour feel uncomfortable. Anyone believing that Westminster will allow Scotland’s voice to supersede that of Labour’s party interest needs to consider the implications of this.
Incredible that BBC network news tonight has ‘full’ sports round-up, including a story that a heavyweight boxing match this summer won’t take place; but not a word on the stunning achievement of
@JoshTaylorBoxer
last night.
D Mundell says Norway Plus does not represent the kind of Brexit that people in Scotland want. People in Scotland don’t want any kind of Brexit Mr Mundell! 62% and rising supported Remain!
58% support for Independence! Again, an excellent poll for Indy and for
@theSNP
Still, more than 4 months to go, and much work to be done. Together we can do this!
“I defy anyone, to look at the broken, corrupt, self serving Westminster system that we are currently part of and conclude that it provides a secure basis for the future of Scotland.” Nicola Sturgeon. Spot on!

PA reporting that the Prime Minister today told the Argentinian President that “the Falkland Islanders, like all people have a right to self determination.” Well, quite.
Delighted to meet and support Richard Ratcliffe shortly before he ended his hunger strike today. He has made an heroic effort to right a terrible and ongoing injustice. The U.K. Govt must listen and act.
#FreeNazanin
Kirstene Hair on GMS demanding opposition MPs in ‘Leave constituencies’ (there are none in Scotland) must vote for Brexit: but she, in a Remain constituency must be allowed to ignore her constituents. Tories gonna Tory.
An outstanding Leader. The first female and longest serving First Minister. Nicola Sturgeon has given her working life to the cause of independence. Thank you for all you have done, and will do in our campaign to win independence for Scotland.
Tories screamed blue murder and blamed SNP when Scots unemployment even 0.1 higher than U.K. Now Scots unemployment 0.5% lower than U.K., Tory silence is deafening.
#toryfail
Excellent STV poll just out. Support for Independence at 53%!, with SNP leading and support growing to 39% for Westminster and well ahead on FPTP and list votes. Independence is our way to escape the Westminster imposed cycle of decline.
#forScotland
Extraordinary attack on the Speaker by Stephen Kerr MP on GMS, who says Speaker is “games playing”. Just the latest Tory scapegoat after ‘The Irish”, The EU, Judges, anyone but those actually responsible: the Tories!
Vicky Ford MP, on
#politicslive
just now: “She (Liz Truss) is a complete democrat, totally believes in democracy and the freedom of people to make their own decisions.” Except for viewers in Scotland presumably.
Independence at 49% in Times poll tomorrow.! Knife edge stuff. Let’s get it over 50%. Also Tories now 4th in Euros poll, in single figures. Scotland is on the move.
“I defy anyone, to look at the broken, corrupt, self serving Westminster system that we are currently part of and conclude that it provides a secure basis for the future of Scotland.” Nicola Sturgeon. Spot on!
Well done Lorna Slater. Handling an extraordinarily hostile interview on
@SundayShow
The idea that when U.K. Govt r 2 scared 2 defend their position (Tory transparency!) that every twisted strand of that position should be presented (with gusto) on their behalf, is not ‘balance’.
Michael Gove’s big wheeze to go on
@bbcgms
to undermine SG falls apart when asked repeatedly for the % of people vaccinated in English care homes, and can’t answer. Tories playing politics with the pandemic, badly.
He swore blind he would never send the letter to the EU; he guaranteed we’d brexit on 31 October; and he said no Tory PM would put a border in the Irish Sea. Why would Labour MPs believe his ‘promise’ that he’d safeguard workers rights.?
#nevertrustatory
So, Labour front bench refuses to support reasonable, balanced and measured compromise amendment from
@Joannacherry
because it is too early to worry about No Deal! Really?
Continuing decline of the U.K. evidenced by IMF forecast the U.K. economy will have highest inflation and slowest growth in the G7. This on top of over £2 trillion in debt and the highest tax burden since 1948. But, apparently, the Tories got the ‘big calls right’
#toryfail
SNP on 57%, projected to win 74 seats. FM on +50 approval, PM on -50. 53% support for Indy (up 2%). Need to keep our eyes on the prize and take nothing for granted.
It’s official. Brilliant SNP win! ! Close to 600,000 votes, 38% of votes cast, and 3 seats won. As SNP Campaign Director, I would like to thank all our candidates, activists and members who worked so hard for this fantastic result. Scotland is for Europe.

Thank you to all those Members of the SNP who got involved in Depute Leadership contest. Absolute privilege to be elected as Depute Leader of our Party.
So, if Council Tax in Scotland is, on average, already £400+ lower in Scotland than England, and if average Band D Has gone up by 5.1% in Eng (3% in Sco), does that make Tory run England the highest taxed part of UK?
If this is how venal and malign Labour is in opposition, Scotland will need to protect itself from any Labour Government. Independence is our route out.
Did Anas Sarwar not say a change of FM in Scotland meant there should be a general election, but a change of FM in Wales didn’t, because it was ‘orderly’. An FM in tears, having accepted a £200k donation, and has now lost the confidence of the Senedd. ‘Orderly!

Hearing oalpable anger at the Tory/Lab alliance that demanded and now claims credit for,the extraordinary decision of the
@BBCScotlandNews
to cut the Covid broadcasts. Seriious own goal for those parties, but a cruel blow for the information hungry public.
Ian Blackford brilliantly extracts another, vital, U turn from the lamentable Liz Truss, who (now) concedes that the Tories must respect the triple lock for our pensioners.
The decision today to undermine Scotland’s voice on a matter as grave as Gaza requires analysis of whether and how people in Scotland can expect any level of democratic input to a HoC where “democratic principles” are decaying at a faster rate than the building itself.
SNP won 47 seats in 2007, and 64 seats in 2021. The Con/Lab/Lib alliance won 79 seats in 2007, and 57 seats in 2021. Seems pretty clear who is ‘tired and running out of steam’, and where unthinking negativity leads you.
As of yesterday,
@BBCNews
&
@BBCScotland
devoted a dismal 24 words of election coverage to

content on

.
The BBC network election coverage had only 2 SNP interviews over weekend.
We are almost a week into the campaign. Fair coverage must start NOW.
Douglas Ross claiming ‘transparency’ seconds before refusing to reveal tiny membership figure for Scottish Tories. Bleeding members from a low base, no traction in the polls and nothing positive to offer Scotland.
#tankingtories
Whatever flaws there are in this deal, and they are huge and varied, it is the most graphic illustration of the silencing of Scotland’s voice, and the sneering contempt of the unionist parties for Scotland’s interests.
@Carlaw4Eastwood
Hi Jackson, thanks for your letter. If you’re genuinely confused by my comments on this issue, I m more than happy to discuss these in detail and at length. How about a public debate, with an impartial Chair? How does 29th of March sound? Let me know if your are willing. Keith
C’mon!
@Carlaw4Eastwood
We agreed last night on
@ScotlandTonight
to debate the issue of whether Scotland should be ‘allowed’ an independence referendum. Let’s get it done. No excuses.
World Economic Forum says “Queensferry Crossing sets a new global standard” as a “stunning structure” and a vital piece of infrastructure that has had a “multi-fold decrease” in costs. It’s interesting to see ourselves as others see us. (The National)
It started with the claim of “the strongest devolved Parliament in the world”, and it ended in the Supreme Court with the U.K.s squalid admission that listening to Scotland’s Parliament was merely a “self denying ordinance”. We won’t be fooled again.
This is the United Nations commenting on Sunak’s Public Order Act - the one that allowed the police to arrest peaceful protesters (even before they began protesting!).
“Deeply concerning”
“Incompatible… with human rights”
No they ain’t talking about Sudan, Iran, or Russia!
Stephen Kerr on GMS saying his constituents want May’s Brexit Deal. Utter nonsense! He needs to talk to his (and my) constituents in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan. They voted remain and deserve to have their views respected.
To colleagues who’ve been asking, I know I’ve been a bit preoccupied during recent political turmoil. No excuse, but this is why. Not everyday you become a grandad, and some things are more important than politics, Maeve is here…. ‘a Celtic Queen’ …
Murdo in a real fankle on

tonight, pretending the very list votes that got him into the Parliament either don’t exist, or count; and that it’s only the constituency contests: which he has lost every time, that matter.

So far nearly 6000 people in Ochil & South Perthshire have signed the petition to revoke Article 50. The Tory MP here, Luke Graham, has not only ignored the huge remain majority, but voted to keep No Deal on the table.
The Tories say that Scotland must stay on the Titanic as the U.K. approaches the ‘iceberg’ of Brexit. But the SNP say there is a better, independent , future for Scotland.
My position is clear - the deeply undemocratic stance of the UK Government in denying the mandate for indyref and refusing a s30 order should not prevent the Scottish Government seeking one and planning on the basis of winning that case.
Amber Rudd admits, at last, what Scots Tory MPs/MSPs have been too ashamed and afraid to say. Universal Credit has driven up food bank use. Not content with tanking the economy, Tories are making the poorest pay most.
From ‘don’t leave, lead’ and a ‘respect agenda’ in 2014, to ‘just ignore’ Scotland in 2022, we can see behind the curtain of contempt for Scotland’s place in the U.K. Doubtless we’ll now see unionist Tory/ Labour MSPs condemn these comments as destructive to their precious Union?
Sunday Times investigation states; at the time the threat of the virus was emerging:- “contingency planning was diverted to deal with a possible no-deal Brexit.”
‘All roads lead back to Westminster’
No, not an SNP soundbite.
Instead, those words belong to UK Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary as he explains why the NHS is in crisis in Wales.
Well worth a listen, and a share.

Embarrassingly ill-informed. The Trams project was driven through by the Better Together trio of Tory/Labour/Lib Dem in 2007 in the teeth of SNP opposition.
#factfreetories
🔻Ex-judge Lord Hardie has spent NINE YEARS conducting an inquiry into the SNP's Edinburgh tram scandal.
🔻The trams cost £776m. The inquiry another £14m. Hardie's report was 'sent to the printers' on April 26, so where is it?
At Saturday’s march (my 4th), I asked the Yes family to respect and celebrate our diversity, as we pursue our common goal, regardless of any party we are with, or how long we’ve been on this road. We are stronger united.
From a ‘No’ voting constituent. “In 2014 I voted against independence, I was politically naïve, I swallowed up the lies of the Better Together campaign and have been left with a lingering and persistent taste of bitter regret ever since. I deeply regret the way in which I voted.”
Looking forward to continuing to represent the great folk of Clackmannanshire & Dunblane, strengthening the SNP and building an ever stronger case for our country’s independence.

will note his view that: the Union is voluntary; but Scotland can only leave with a Section 30 Order; and you can’t have one! Scotland will have its say.

@DouglasRoss
However, given all the unanswered questions, including his evident contempt for his ‘job’ at Holyrood, it is only right that Douglas Ross makes a personal statement to Parliament tomorrow.
Disastrous Tory interview on EU elections with their sole MEP on GMS. Freely conceded no policies, no manifesto, “no idea” how long PM will be in office, but hey, no to indyref. Politically bankrupt Party of No.
Wet but wonderful march today. Got to Glasgow Green and turned to watch the crowds come through to the very end. Last guy tells me it was his 1st ever march and he was determined to win independence.

Scottish economy again outperforming UK, met with a shameful silence from Scots Tories. UK holding Scotland back. No wonder more Scots support Indy economy than the shackles of union.
Some Governments have massively increased National debt, some have hugely increased taxes, and some have hit working people hardest by imposing back breaking austerity: but the Tories are in a league of their own in having exceeded in all three!
I have more reason than most to dread the next “intervention by Brown”, but I honestly feel his tired cliches, his flawed political and historical analysis, and his exultation for the ‘precious union’, now actually helps the indy cause.
That the Tories would join a Better Together ‘boycott’ of the debate about defending the Scottish Parliament and its powers, is no surprise. That Labour and the Lib Dem’s joined in tells us all we need to know about the contempt of those parties for our democratic rights.
Good to note that after yesterday’s budget the majority of Scots will continue to pay less tax than those elsewhere in the U.K.: and that this favours those earning the least. 👍
#progressiveScotland
Gavin Williamson was the guy that required of all serving personnel in the Armed Forces that they sign and abide by the Official Secrets Act. This Tory Government is rotten to the core.
#toryfail
Interesting the Tory Remainers who have chosen to Leave say Party has abandoned its principles and is firmly in the grip of the ERG and the DUP. Even more interesting that no Tory MSP/Scottish MP has uttered a word of concern over this.
Tuesday: J Carlaw boasts his ‘new’ Tory team will “take the fight to the SNP”, and “put the positive case for the Union”. Wednesday: No Tory Minister, nor any Scottish Tory MSP willing to defend (on GMS) the Tories’ appallingly damaging immigration plans.
#notfitforopposition
It’s reported the Tory Prine Minister is “prepared to fight to keep her job”. The much more important question is whether she is prepared to work to save the jobs of 1000s of citizens who may lose theirs, due to a shambolic Tory Brexit?
After the chaos of Boris Johnson and shambles of Liz Truss, we now have the chaotic shambles of Alistair Jack. Apparently, even Tory MSPs are saying they need ‘a grown up in the room’ and clearly, that grown up is not Alistair Jack. The Prime Minister needs to act.
Absolutely woeful interview from Jackie Baillie on GMS on 2 child policy/rape clause. It’s now the SNP’s fault! Would not even commit to ‘Scottish Labour’ ‘mitigating’ U.K. Labour’s 2 child policy if they were in power at Holyrood! Labour are undone.
Not sure where
@Jackson_Carlaw
has been. Excepting recess, I’ve been in Parliament every week during lockdown, mostly 2 days a week. I’ve seen extended FMQs, extended questions and numerous debates. Tories have had endless opportunity to show just how poor an opposition they are.
Having spoken to Doosan Babcock, I’m advised that around 300 of the 350 jobs R Leonard claims face redundancy have not yet even been recruited for. These are service related contract jobs for work starting later this year. DB advise this claim is “unsettling and disappointing”.
