Hi y’all! My names katy and I’m
#embound
for
#match2024
!!
I’m the
@AAEMRSA
msc chair and the
@TexACEP
msc chair. Interests include med Ed/mentoring and street med.
When I’m not in meetings, I love running, building Lego, or reading thrillers 😀
@wfaa
This is very upsetting coming from what we’ve been seeing in ER and hospitals across Texas.
Masks work and the delta variant is more transmissible. Why are we making a lifesaving thing political?
Hot take: as a student, I would rather be given more work and feel like apart of the team (and learn more)
Rather than watch the residents do everything all day
Thought I'd share here, if you google "Eras Applicant Worksheet" a fillable PDF will pop up where you can see how ERAS is set up for
#match2024
and start drafting responses.
This is probably the dumbest question right now, but after my ROL is certified I’m done??
My page looks like this - I don’t need to do anything else? Hahaha help
Hot take: be quiet and work hard.
This applies to every rotation, you don’t have to be the loudest, smartest person. Know your patients well and be willing to do the small things. This will be noticed
Tip to stand out on your ortho sub-I: don’t try to stand out
Your job is not to stand out, it’s to take care of business. You do this by being on time (all 100+ days) and getting supplies ready.
If your goal is to stand out, you will, but more than likely for the wrong reasons.
HUGE huge shoutout to residents who tell me to leave early when no learning is happening. Y’all are the real homies, and I aspire to be like you someday
When’s the fun part of 4th year gonna kick in?
Bc I’m still behind on emails, eras, and life in general 🙃
I just wanna read and watch Netflix for like 2 weeks ok
Ah yep it finally happened. Almost passed out in the OR this morning
I was so so embarrassed, but a scrub nurse was kind to me and got me snacks when I collapsed outside the OR 🥲
At the end of an interview today, faculty told us good luck, etc. said that regardless of what program we go to, we will all be colleagues and EM is a small world.
That really hit home 🥰
The best feeling I get during interviews is when the interviewer says something directly from my personal statement, that indicates that they’ve read it.
Genuinely means a lot to me
I’ve maxed out loans and credit cards, and bc I had no foresight have to pay double rent for a month.
I have no idea when I’m getting paid but it’s a really tough time June/July starting intern year 🫠
How does anyone survive the time between medical school and residency financially lmao??? Why does everyone say just take out a relocation loan, etc??? That’s not the answer to this recurrent problem in the medical field
I've been on teams where it feels like I'm shadowing.
And others where the attending asks for my opinion on the plan, to write notes, etc.
I know I can't contribute much rn, but I like being involved with the patients
My morning started with my politely explaining to a pt’s family member that DOs are in fact board certified physicians and not “fancy chiropractors” 🙃🙃
The thought of taking step 1 + comlex makes me want to barf. And yet starting UWorld is oddly comforting, like if so many people have done this before me, I can do it too!
I stayed 2 hours late after a shift and I am still going home with my cup full. I know I did everything I could for my patients, and man I chose the right speciality 🙂
I got to witness this badass crit care doc who just whipped her butterfly out of her fanny pack in a code to diagnose a massive PE.
She is now my role model.
Finishing my last interview didn’t feel good tbh. Bc now I’m panicked that this whole silly system won’t work out, and I have to feel this anxiety for 65 more days??
I’m so proud of all my friends and fourth year colleagues who matched into EM.
But not going to lie it’s scary to see so many open spots. Regardless, the future of the field is bright i believe it
Now that I’ve graduated med school, will I stop having panic dreams about not completing an assignment from high school?
Just kidding I already know the answer 😢
So my surgeon preceptor can be strict during surgery, but he also knows my name and that oddly means a lot. Bc a lot of attendings I’ve worked with haven’t cared to remember
My heart is heavy today.
I’m so unbelievably grateful for where I am, but I’m balancing that with so much sadness around me. Learning to feel both is a struggle
Welp, I had to shelter and evacuate at the state fair tonight. By far the scariest moment of my life.
When the hell are we going to see gun control in this state/country??
Shooting (Dallas) Dallas PD is on scene of a shooting at the State Fair near the food court. Multiple injuries reported. Ambulances requested to the scene. Updates to follow. AVOID THE AREA!
Ngl one of my favorite parts of doing sub-is is meeting the other rotating students especially from out of town. I love making new friends with maybe future co-residents!!
Em people are the best 🥰
Really glad I went to a few second looks, changed a few things on the couples ROL at the last minute.
Here’s hoping for a good outcome where we both have jobs next year!!
Friendly reminder to all the third years… I’m so excited and happy for you!! And DMs are always open to em advising
But know advice might be different now vs after March 15
And PLEASE no twitter bio intros until after March? Thank you 🥲
Life begins when you finally stop believing that life will begin once you lose weight, get that job, have more money, or find the perfect partner.
Life is now.
