Father of Southport Child Murder victim David Stancombe has spoken out again... It's enough to break any parent's heart. In a interview with the Sunday Times, he said: "You know what’s hard now? You know you say to your kids every day, every night, ‘I won’t let anything happen to you’?" “How could I say that to [Elsie’s sibling] now? Because this has happened to Elsie. How could I sit there and say, ‘I would never let anything happen to you’?” If there was ever a damning indictment of Prevent, the UK’s counterterrorism program, this is it. Rudakubana was referred to Prevent three times between 2019 and 2021. Authorities had the information, they had the warning signs—yet they failed to stop him. Now, a review of Prevent is underway. But what we've seen from the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in the interim is talks of Amazon sales, blunt knives, and controlling “extreme content” online. As if any of that would stop another determined, seemingly politically-motivated, and evil killer. All these paper-over-cracks measures would also conveniently expand government power, when authorities already had the means to act—and they didn’t.
