Serial Survivor. Victims advocate. Lupus, Breast Cancer. Author of " A Light in the Dark: Surviving More Than Ted Bundy " with co-author Emilie Lucchesi.
On this day 44 years ago, I was attacked by serial killer Ted Bundy. I survived, but two of my sorority sisters did not. Today, I am announcing that I have accepted an offer with Chicago Review Press for my memoir, "A Light In the Dark: Surviving More than Ted Bundy."
I am Kathy Kleiner, a survivor of an attack by Ted Bundy, I had breast cancer and chemotherapy and I have Lupus. October is breast cancer month. Please be sure to do your exams to find any problems early. I love life and look forward to each day!
It always amazes me that people are so fascinated by Ted Bundy. I am interested in him because I survived his 1978 attack at FSU's Chi Omega house. What is it that you find interesting about Bundy?
On January 15, 1978 I was in bed at the Chi Omega house at FSU.
Ted Bundy entered the house.
He killed two of my sisters and attacked me and my roommate.
In my book" A Light in the Dark: Surviving More Than Ted Bundy"
I tell of the attack and my life with lupus and breast cancer
January 15,1978, that was the night I was attacked by Ted Bundy. He tried to take me on his journey of killing, but I survived. This is my journey now and I look forward with great excitement and anticipation to what 2020 might bring!
Approximately 12 hours from now (EST in the USA), Bundy was electrocuted in 1989. The man who attacked my sorority sisters and me was finally dead and we could move on in our own private ways.
I am excited to let you know that tonight, Saturday April 11th at 10 pm eastern, my story will be told on CBS “48 hours” Live to tell: Surviving Ted Bundy. Along with my recovery from the attack, it will also include my ordeals of living thru Lupus, and breast cancer
I was attacked by Ted Bundy and I am here to tell my story. My book" A Light in the Dark: Surviving More Than Ted Bundy" will release on Oct 3rd and is available from Amazon. This link tells more about me.

Thanks for your kind words! I find it therapeutic to talk about my survival beyond Bundy's attack, so this book was a true labor of love.
Tori Telfer wrote a great article for Rolling Stone on Ted Bundy and the victim that got away.
Check out her book "Serial Lady Killers". It is a great read and has been a real killer in the book clubs. I can't wait to see what she writes next.
I am going to watch Discovery ID "Ted Bundy: Mind of a Monster" on Sunday. I want to understand why he attacked me, and how he could torture, kill and then mutilate the bodies of so many young women.
Ted Bundy could be angry in court but he did not scare me! I took the stand in court and stared him down from the stand. He attacked me in my bed, but I let him know he didn't break me.

He wasn't nice when he attacked me in my bed at the Florida State sorority house. He wasn't nice when he murdered 2 of my sisters in their beds at Chi Omega. There wasn't anything nice about him.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out about my upcoming book. My coauthor, Emilie Lucchesi, and I are very excited about it! If I don't reply, just know it's because I'm working on several other things right now, but I truly appreciate your comments! -Love, Kathy

Kathy Kleiner Rubin with co-author Emilie Lucchesi's A LIGHT IN THE DARK, challenging the narrative of Ted Bundy as a charming, seductive figure, based on Kleiner Rubin's own experience surviving an attack by Bundy.

HLN show tonight of Ted Bundy will tell the victim's stories. They give a voice to all of us survivors including those who grieve for their beloved women who were taken away so young. Their story needs to be heard too. We all knew the evil Ted Bundy.
Staying home many of us are communicating by social media. Instead think about sending handwritten letters. No stamps, order them online. I was attacked by Ted Bundy, while recovering, I found comfort in reading letters that people took time to write me.
Stay Healthy.
I am Kathy Kleiner, a survivor of an attack by Ted Bundy. Tonight will be a special on Headline News at 8pm E . See "How it Really Happened", the True story of the serial killer Ted Bundy and his victims.
Year 2020, it holds many possibilities for making it a great year.Reaching out to all the families of the recent violent attacks, I hope you grow stronger each day. Survivor of attack by Ted Bundy, I have Lupus and had breast cancer. I look forward to 2020 and what it may bring.
@KerriRawson
I have also been accused of trying to profit from the attack Ted Bundy perpetrated on me in 1978. There will always be people who will doubt your motivations, but you have every right to tell your story!
All who were affected by violence at the Synagogue , whose lives were touched and enriched by those who were taken away to soon. Be strong and remember they lived helping others. Let them surround you with love and let the tree of life grow with their memories. I send you peace.

I was so angry when I found out that Bundy got a stay on his 7/1/86 execution date. It was an insult to all the women and girls he killed, including my sorority sisters, Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy.

It has been 44 years and I am still thriving beyond Ted Bundy. He does not define me. My heart goes out to the families of my sorority sisters, Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy, in their loss.

Power is back after Hurricane Ian. I'm glad to say our house is OK, but we lost our 32-ft sailboat, Maxine. She was the new love of our lives, but the entire dock broke away. I fear she is at the bottom of the river. I'll respond to messages soon! I promise!
Very excited to share that I will be filling in as a guest anchor on

Not one tear was shed for his victims, two of whom were my sorority sisters at FSU. Ted Bundy was a violent narcissist who felt entitled to harm others and expected no repercussions on his end.

Kathy, for some reason, I have been thinking about you and your story. I am so blessed by your strength, love for friends, and courage. Sadly, I knew Georgann and we were sorority friends in 1974. Bundy's story hits very close to home. God Bless!
@thekingoftimbs
I use the word "serial killer" with Bundy because he attacked me in 1978 and tried to kill me. He also attacked my roommate, Karen. I believe this is the best term to describe him.
Noticed Café Du Monde is appropriately trending for its deliciousness.
Now all I can think about their beignets & coffee and how far away from New Orleans I am. 😫
Also when Ted Bundy was on trial a bunch white women would dye their hair (brunette) like how he liked on his victims & they’d be supporting him in court. He received a lot of fan mail, he even married a woman while on death row & had a daughter with her. They are disgusting!
@RoseDysfunction
After my attack by Ted Bundy, in the Chi O Sorority house, Sheriff Ken Katsaris's professionalism was a comfort to me and my family. Ken was determined Bundy would not escape from his jail in Tallahassee and that he would be sure Bundy was taken to trial.
In November of 1974, serial killer Ted Bundy dumped the remains of 17-year-old Laura Ann Aime at this site outside of Salt Lake City.

In August of 1975, Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant Bob Hayward arrested serial killer Ted Bundy at this location in West Valley City, Utah.

We all want to believe that we would know if we came into contact with a serial killer. Emma Kenny will take you on a journey looking at what ingredients of possibility lead to body counts by killers like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Paul Knowles. April 19
@TheAISOCC
I appreciate Kenneth Mains and The AISOCC for inviting me to their conference and allowing me to tell my story of being a survivor of Ted Bundy's attack. The conference was informative, and I met a lot of students who are passionate to work as the next cold case investigators.
