A quick google will show 85% of beetroot production is in QLD, where very few buybacks have occurred.
Between 2008-09 to 2013-14 production decreased over 67%. This has continued to decrease over recent years.
The beetroot shortage is a wake-up call. Government buybacks are raising water prices. Higher costs to grow food + supermarkets squeezing farmers on prices = more burgers with less. Our food supply chain is under pressure from anti-farming

After 7 wonderful years on the Western Local Land Services board, today I attended by last meeting.
Learnt an enormous amount, met so many incredible people and will forever look back on this time fondly.

What ‘happened at Menindee’ was irrigators upstream took too much water (because Govs allowed it) and as a result the quality and quantity of our flows deteriorated.
People then sold out…

The last thing they do is ‘contribute to a more equitable/ environmentally sustainable world’.
I’d argue a lot of the time they do the opposite…

The NSW water minister “not disagreeing” work being done with a predicted outcome.
Narrow research being done to only show the negative impacts of buybacks, that a Royal Commission found ‘do not exist or are greatly overstated’.

2- Last years leg changes didn’t change the amount of water recovery, just how it’s done
3- Same thing happened to the 605GL in ‘18 but irrigators were happy
