The sad mystery of the More children. For centuries no one was sure why Samuel More put his four tiny children on the Mayflower in 1620, sending them off to the New World without either parent. Three of the children died soon afterwards but one, Richard, flourished in America. In the 20thC documents were found in an attic confirming what had happened. Samuel had made an arranged marriage to his cousin, Katherine. In 1616 he accused her of adultery with a man to whom she had once been betrothed. Denying the children were fathered by him, Samuel, to spite his wife, sent them on the Mayflower. Their mother spent years trying to find them #mayflower #morechildren #themayflower
