Oh god please it's 2023, no artist is obligated to draw anything.
If you're wanting to be inclusive, you should be mindful and do your proper research to capture the subject accurately, sure.
There are people who say getting better at art is just about practice, but tbh I think it's more about getting better at observing.
You can go months without actively drawing and still get better just by having a better understanding.
The excuse that it's "for the sake of improvement" is bs.
I'm not gonna draw learn how to draw every subject/idea/concept in the world and no artist is obligated to improve. some just want to draw for fun. It's a hobby, let them!
I used to talk with a few Japanese artists and one specifically was part of a fandom we both liked.
But they deleted their account since it's common for Jp artists to make separate accounts depending on the fandom they're in at the time and this artist moved on.
Ugh the likes on this person's tweets...
I used to follow them because they actually did their own art. Now it's pretty much all AI generated. :/ And they're using it for the 100 day art challenge. Wtf.
@BrothaDom
I still don't think that should be an obligation.
Not that long ago, I wasn't able to draw men very well and I still struggle quite a bit. There are certainly artists who focus on a niche and I don't think we should dink them for not being able to draw everything op listed.
Not saying practice isn't valuable tho. The actual act of drawing helps build that muscle memory but I think people miss how much planning and visual breakdown in your mind happens before you put the pencil down on paper.
@hanpeachi
Yes! I understand where they're coming from, for sure. We all want to see ourselves represented in media, but expecting individual artists to fulfill that is just wishful thinking.
