What was Nair family system? The patriarch lived with his sisters and her kids. Once the kids grow, the nieces’ kids join the family. All the while his own kids grow under the guidance of another man in another house hold(s), where he may visit as long as he is permitted.

Feeding Brahmins landlords for free: In 1917, Travancore government spent Rs 318,142 for uttupuras, which was free meal facility for the Brahmins. Travancore had ~50k Brahmins, incl 15k Malayalis. Assuming only men 10-60 age accessed, it was for just 10-15k men.

This is what reservation of millennia upon millennia had done in this society. A mochi is kept as mochi only for generation after generation and a brahmin is just to enjoy free and surplus labor

A pudava – that’s all what it costed for the men to start a Sambandham. Maybe very powerful Nair could ignore the Brahmins from poor "Mana". However, the right to seek “Sambandham” was Brahmins’.

Instant death for polluting Savarna. A Pulaya could be killed for polluting the Savarna, which can happen if the Pulaya enter the Market, which Savarna managed. What saved Pulaya from such instant deaths? British laws from 1800s.

It worked good for Rajas too. It supplied steady flow of mercenaries with no family bonds to fight for Rajas. The young men felt out of place in their homes and they were more than eager to escape their home join Kalari, fight for the king, and have a lady, if they are lucky.

Why unseeable? As per Kerala’s then caste system, the Brahmins are polluted even by the sight of a Panchama. Elsewhere in India, the oppressor caste is polluted from the touch of an untouchable. "Seeing and touching" a Panchama had ritualistic solutions.

The history of India is a history of mortal conflict between Buddhism and Brahmanism. Dr. Br Ambedkar The thread is to show how the leadership of South Asia, if there was one, failed miserably. Therefore, no need of blaming the invaders – the hobby of UCs . 🧵

Men from other families would seek relationship with the ladies. The patriarch agrees or disagrees. If he agreed, the man comes home with a Pudava that night and the relationship started until the patriarch disagrees or the man loses interest in the lady and leaves.
