Dokładnie tak jest. Rumunia rozwija się niezwykle dynamicznie, ale rozwój ten jest bardzo nierównomierny i dotyczy głównie miast (a i to nie wszystkich) oraz wybranych regionów kraju. W Polsce - mimo wszelkich nierówności, „Polski A i Polski B” mogliśmy jednak w ciągu ostatnich dwóch dekad obserwować niesamowitą metamorfozę polskich wiosek czy małych miasteczek. W Rumunii niestety było trochę inaczej.

Ależ to jasne. Problemem nie jest jednak to że Amerykanie postanowili dokonać audytu programów rozwojowych, ale że zrobili to niezwykle gwałtownie, efektywnie niszcząc także mnóstwo dobrych projektów (czas i z nich nie da się tak naprawdę przywrócić po tych 90 dniach). Dodatkowo kompromituje się całą ideę pomocy rozwojowej. Gdyby MAGA mówiło po prostu że trzeba “oczyścić USAID” z “ideologii woke” to szkodliwość polityczna takiego działania dla prozachodnich beneficjentów pomocy amerykańskiej w MD, Gruzji itd. byłaby znikoma. Ale gdy mówi się wprost że USAID to organizacja przestępcza a do tego organizator rewolucji, to daje się wrogowi (Rosji) broń do ręki.

**On the suspension (and possible termination?) of 🇺🇸USAID assistance to 🇲🇩Moldova—why it’s not just about the money?** ▶️ The current turmoil surrounding USAID is a serious problem for Moldova. But it’s not just about money—it’s also about the broader narrative now accompanying U.S. aid, coming from both Washington and Elon Musk himself. The MAGA movement has consistently framed USAID as a vehicle for funding not only the so-called *“woke”* agenda but also a range of media outlets, news portals, and NGOs—including those that have opposed regimes in power in various countries. In Moldova’s case, this affects a significant number of people and organizations that have spent years fighting Russian propaganda, exposing corruption among local politicians (often linked to Russia or oligarchic networks), and promoting democratic values, human rights, and a Western socio-economic model. Their work naturally supported parties advocating for anti-corruption, democratization, Westernization, and European integration. Now, however, they find themselves caught in the crossfire. On one side, they remain targets for pro-Russian forces and the Kremlin; on the other, they are now facing attacks from their former allies. Politicians like Igor Dodon (leader of the pro-Russian Socialists) are openly declaring: *“According to statements from the new U.S. administration, USAID is an organized criminal group”*—adding that for at least four years, USAID funds were allegedly used to finance the election campaigns of PAS and President Sandu. ▶️ As the result, the long-standing, repeatedly debunked (by the West) claims about “foreign agents” funding political upheavals have not only gained credibility but have become increasingly difficult to refute. This puts the entire pro-Western camp in a dire PR situation—just over six months before parliamentary elections. The financial aspect is no less important. While U.S. funding for Moldovan NGOs and independent media has been crucial, it was only a small fraction of the total U.S. financial assistance. The vast majority of funds went to infrastructural investments, institution-building and key reforms. USAID helped Moldova reduce its energy dependence on Russia, supported the growth of its wine sector (improving quality and access to global markets), developed government digital services (boosting transparency and efficiency), strengthened local governments, and even financed the judicial vetting process (ongoing since 2021–2022). Believe it or not, *“woke”* projects (however one defines them) made up only a tiny fraction of USAID’s overall spending in Moldova. ‼️ Now, all these efforts are at risk. President Sandu has just announced that the judicial vetting program (mentioned above) will likely be suspended and that alternative funding sources are being sought. If USAID is not restarted or the financial gap left by Washington’s recent decisions is not filled, Moldova’s ability to counter Russian hybrid (and more direct, hard) threats will be significantly weakened. And all of this is happening at the most politically sensitive moment—right before Moldova’s crucial parliamentary elections.

@Chudziak_Ma @Marcin_RWW To prawda. I tu już naprawdę Rumuni mają większy mandat do uważana się za spadkobierców Rzymu. Raz że Rzym tak faktycznie był, dwa że łacina miała wyraźny wpływ lokalną mowę (co widzimy do dziś). Nie mówię już nawet o Konstancy.

@ScislakW @patrycjuszwyzga @OSW_pl To prawda. Uderzająca była dla mnie zmiana samych Jassów między 2007 a 2017. W dziesięć lat (po wejściu do Unii) miasto odżyło, wypiękniało, rozkwitło.
