Today I was presented a Queen’s Jubilee Medal for volunteer service. Honoured by the award. Doing good things for your community and the people you live around is just something my wife and I do. Thanks to my fellow volunteers in the MacNutt community.

My old UGG Agricore United elevator in Langenburg was demolished yesterday. Proud to have worked there with some amazing teammates....too many to mention. It was a great place to learn and build relationships. What we accomplished in that operation was remarkable. RIP UGG

Want to fix salinity? Manage the water! Pretty simple. This area was so saline that it never grew anything consistently. Managed the water flow and now it’s a top performing area.

People that drive our rural roads are pigs. Hate seeing this garbage in the road ditches along my land as it’s a reflection on we care for the land….I know that’s not true but it does carry.

Best and only effective way to manage salinity is to manage the water and drain excessive amounts from the landscape. 5 years ago this land was surrounded by water and white with salt. Problem solved. Crops grow.

Anyone that’s looking at drought conditions might be envious of our position. Flooding sucks. Our goal is to get this all to eventually drain away. But due to elevations this water is looking for anywhere to go irregardless of plan. Water management is critical to our survival.

A rain(sprinkle) delay last night interrupted me seeding my Acres For Cover field of canola. Acres For Cover is part of our fund raising campaign to save the roof of our MacNutt Community Center. Based on what I see going on in Canada we won’t be building these facilities again.

Working with SaskPower and dealers and manufacturers to include maps of the SaskPower structures into our guidance tools to remind us of the “danger zones” that exist. We lost a good friend in May due to a line contact. One death is too many. Be safe!
Got the unloading auger into power lines and set two tires on fire. Extremely lucky all we lost were two tires.

A shout out to our fertilizer supply channel partners. Pro N2 based out of Innisfail, AB have been hauling NH3 to Andres Farm Services here in Macnutt past couple seasons. Clean trucks, work around the clock and drive carefully down these grid roads. Without them we aren’t rollin

Our local nutrien invited us for steak dinner then told us they are closing the liquid and dry fertilizer plant. Told us we can drive 45 miles to the new place in Balgonie.

I worked retail for many years and as farms evolved it was difficult to show appreciation for the business. Today my ammonia delivery driver dropped off a piece of pie. Made my day! Sometimes it’s the simple things. Hats off to Andres Farm Services for exceptional service.
