Baby Strube

is here! 12:24p, 7lb13.5oz, 19.75in long. Our biggest baby yet. Still finalizing name. Mom is recovering well. Baby is having a couple of issues being monitored, hopefully they will resolve on their own, TBD, but God's got it regardless.

Excited to share with my

family, Strube tax credit number 3 is making his or her appearance in December, just in time for the tax deadline!
Baby GIRL Strube has been named

Gloria Hope Strube. Her name reminds us of the HOPE we have in Jesus--that He will be returning and we will one day know the GLORY of God's presence.

I have many photos in this position, but I keep taking them bc I don't know how many more of these moments I'll get. They'll end one day, and as tired as I am, I already know I'll miss them terribly. He's sick (again), congested, and sawing logs in my ear. 🤣

Heidi and I celebrated nine years of marriage a month early by going on a cruise from LA to Cabo and back. My parents watched the kids. 5 days without kids or cell service was the perfect vacation!

I just called one of my beloved clients, 82yo widow. She's cheerful, grateful for my work, a delight to work w/, uploads to my portal, QCD's and more to charity. She owes this yr, a lot (cap gains), and she's still smiling bc I explained it.

I just did a BIG thing. I submitted a Speaker Request Form for Bridging the Gap to talk about my firm and how we've implemented asynchronous work. TY
@NeverCallMeRich
for the encouragement, time and feedback on my submission! Deep breath, and now back to work!
Give me ALL your tax forms and the info I ask for. Go find everywhere you bank/invest/borrow/work and check if any tax forms are there. Having only SOME of your info is like having 400 of the pieces to a 1K-piece puzzle, useless.
I am totally bragging

, I just got my last 2022 (yes, 2022) S-Corp return e-filed. Cannot tell you the work it took to get that one across the finish line.

Bragging on a sweet client. In her 80's, uploads most to TaxDome and completes the TD organizer, but the 1099s get a little wearying for her to scan, so she makes an appt and comes in person and brings copies. I think she really just wanted to see the baby. 1/
Please don't ghost. If you are leaving your tax pro, show courtesy & tell us. We worry about you, general public. Some of you every year truly forget that tax filing is an annual thing. Others ghost. We don't know which batch you're in.

I finally did it. My admin recommended this last year. We both put up a "slow to respond" auto-responder on email with a bullet list of responses to the most common questions we're getting. Fingers crossed we can get out of our email and get some returns done.
I get negative comments when I post about never giving up or getting married.
"Marriage IS giving up. No?" 👇
Do y'all consider marriage giving up?
If you could retweet this with marriage advice & a picture of y'all married I'd appreciate it 🙏 negativity is disheartening!

I don't talk about this often on socials, but I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). It's a strange condition of defective collagen that manifests differently in pretty much everyone affected by it. Today, our awesome local support group Clovis/Fresno EDS put on an awareness 1/
But also the heartaches

remember to get outside and prioritize what's important vs urgent. I took my kids to the park via bikes and stroller yesterday and we had a blast.

Every tax professional, both right and left, will tell you that the IRS is severely underfunded and the people that suffer from this are law abiding taxpayers who require a responsive agency. Tax cheats are the only ones who benefit from a dysfunctional service.

I tell them my fee for that is higher than just preparing it. Because I still have to prepare it and then compare it theirs to explain why it's different. That usually shuts down that convo, and they either leave or hire me.

This is a change I made this year. Last year, I had a few jerks email ON the deadline day saying "...the nebulous 'after tax season' was unacceptable..." So now I say "in May." The concept of others (i.e., us) taking PTO seems lost on some people.

I haven't processed the relief. All returns are either extended or filed, and mine is one of the filed ones! I spent the evening with my kids. My wife was able to have a night out celebrating her sister's bday w/o watching the clock to come back so I could work more.

Is it too bold to say "If you need immediate assistance, please go find another accountant. Thank you for helping us cull our client list." ? There is RARELY such a thing as a true tax emergency, and usually it's because the client procrastinated.
If your entire office is closed for the holiday, your automatic reply email should not say, “If you need immediate assistance please contact another member of the engagement team.”

I did this with a job. Very glad I did. The place had a very unhealthy culture. By me starting with, "I think I'm the wrong controller for your company," it opened the door for a few mtgs to try & improve things. They ultimately didn't want to change anything 1/

It's a fair question. I think the key point is that even tax accountants sub specialize. Trusts and estates and inheritance have so much nuance in them that I don't touch them. It's too easy to mess up. I refer out the work when the client has a trust or estate return needed.
From a joke email list I subscribe to: "I have one cup of coffee every morning to start the day off right. The other cups are to keep me out of jail, help me form sentences, and fuel my razor-sharp wit!"
Why did Mary

immediately come to mind as I read this?

I know we vent abt not getting PY depreciation schedules, but can we sub-vent abt preparers who when asked, only provide "summary" depreciation schedules that lump regular/179/bonus depreciation? We need the breakout! This has happened twice to me now.
