I had no idea when we signed off this morning that it would be for the final time on the Wake Up Zone. Thank you to everybody who has reached out with kind messages and calls. I promise I will get to every one of them.
Sad day with the loss of Frank Wycheck. The 14 years we worked together on the radio were so special and fun, I think about those times every day. We bonded over a shared love of important stuff like golf, 80’s rock and Star Wars. So great.
Deepest sympathies to his family.

Most of all, thank you to all of you who’ve listened. I will miss that time every day. This show and my family and friends have helped keep me going during these last few months. Hope to be back calling games when there are games to call. Thanks y’all, talk to you soon.
Oh, and here’s my bud and legendary voice of
@VandyBoys
@joefishervu
with the call of the final batter of Rocker’s no-hitter on Learfield IMG College. Fun to watch from the booth.
@Learfield
Highlights from Day 1 without a morning show...
“If you’re not working, how about getting going on cleaning the bathrooms.”
“We’ll survive this. You’ve always been a cheapskate.”
“Who says you get to microwave your dinner first?”
Mrs Ingram, keeping it real.
Thanks to my friends on the show Mark, Blaine and Shaffer, and those in the past... Frank, Paul, Brandon and Morgan. It’s been a special run for 16 years on a show that was a career-changer for me. Thanks also to all our friends of the show and contributors.
I’m excited and honored to be on the call with Tim Thompson for
@VandyMBB
for the remainder of the season, starting today with Vanderbilt vs MVSU. Will do my best to uphold the standard of excellence set by my friend Joe Fisher.

Tough day. I’ve had no bigger supporter professionally or personally than Joe Fisher. Watched his excellent work on TV for years, and had the pleasure of working with him as he provided the soundtrack for Vanderbilt sports. My family and I support Joe 100%.
First, as of this morning I am checking myself into a rehab facility to address an issue I've struggled with for a long time. As a result I will be off the grid and out of pocket for a while. Second, I have resigned my position at Vanderbilt effective immediately.
Today would’ve been my dad’s 71st birthday. He’s been gone for several years, but I still find myself wanting to call him about golf or fixing a lawnmower. At any age, we always need those wise voices. It’s crazy how much I look like him now.
Tough news. Had a lot of fun working with Mark for a lot of years. Still talked to him on a regular basis, will miss our chats about baseball and everything else. A good friend who was always encouraging and supportive toward my career. Condolences to his family.
Sometimes it is no fun to break news. It is with great sadness that I must report that Nashville television/radio sports personality Mark Howard passed away this afternoon at home. ... Mark was a friend and supporter, and his voice (booming and knowledgable) will be missed.
Great day for me and my family. Thank you to
@vucommodores
for the opportunity. It’s really special to have the chance to represent the school, wear your colors, and help tell the stories of all the amazing student-athletes. ⚓️⬇️

Kinda had a feeling as the season went along that it was going to be the final one for Coach Byrd. Really happy he got to go out the way he did, the guy is the best. It’s been an honor to call nearly 500
@BelmontMBB
games with RB on the sideline. Congrats Coach!
For years I had it mind that it would be fun to go to Hawaii in the year I turned 50. Thanks to
@VandyMBB
, it happened this week. An unbelievable experience for my family and me.

Thanks so much for this honor, really means a lot! It’s a fun league and I’ve enjoyed working with my awesome friends at
@OVCSports
and
@BelmontMBB
for many years. Most appreciated.
Congrats to
@KIngramSports
on receiving the OVC Media Award.
The awards were established in 2010 to recognize media members who provide publicity for the Conference and perform their jobs in a fair, consistent and accurate manner.
Very nice memorial service today in Nashville for Mark Howard. Hope Hines and members of Mark’s family did an outstanding job sharing their memories. It was so nice to see a lot of familiar faces, and a reminder for me to do a better job keeping in touch with such good friends.
Wow!!! I’ve been to hundreds of baseball games, at all levels. First no-hitter I’ve ever seen in person. Congrats to Kumar Rocker,
@VandyBoys
win 3-0 to force deciding game of Super Regional tomorrow.
Sometimes a 3 hour drive is a good thing. Had time to think about how much I enjoy being part of
@BelmontMBB
and everyone involved, starting with Coach Byrd. Tough finish in Evansville, but very fortunate to have called 10 championship games. Really fun season.
So proud of our
@VandyMBB
team, and optimistic we’ll have more games to play. I do want to thank everyone who makes our broadcasts possible and so much fun, including
@VandyAD
,
@tmcclelland
and
@Dommeda1
and our entire group at VU… Phil, Dan and Gus with
@LearfieldAudio
(more)
I wasn’t leaving without a photo with my guys Josh and Brooks. So happy for them and everyone who works so hard to make the
@VandyBoys
one of the great programs in college sports.
So long from Lexington. Unbelievable win for
@VandyMBB
, 68-66 at Kentucky. Jordan Wright with the last 2 buckets, including the game winner with 2 seconds. That was special. See y’all at Memorial on Saturday!

Was late when we finished the game last night, but wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who watched or listened to the 80 or so games I’ve been fortunate to work since last August, most recently
@VandyBoys
baseball. Another fun ride!
Unless I get a postseason call-up, my last of about 80 games of play-by-play for this season of baseball and other sports. So much fun, love calling games. Thanks!
C’mon man. Bruins won 26 games and get no postseason at all? Not Belmont’s fault they didn’t get to play the original schedule of non-conference games. Could have at least got a spot in the NIT.
Thank you,
@VandyMBB
and
@jerrystackhouse
. The guys left it all out there again today. In a challenging season for everyone, it was an honor to call your games. Really special opportunity for me.

Happy New Year. We got nervous watching our 80ish-year-old neighbor going way up on a ladder to take down decorations. Went out and offered to help, he politely declined and threw in a story about firefighter training back in the day. That dude’s amazing.
#gobackinthehousekid
One of those “low majors” got an at-large bid and made a good showing in NCAA, the other advanced to the NIT final. Those two “low majors” also beat high majors this season.
#atleastcallthemmidmajor
These had been sitting in my closet for years, worn maybe once. Trying to help our
@VandyMBB
home court mojo, I decided today was the day. 1-0.
#AnchorDown
Not sure which is more strange to think about... that school is starting today, or that my kid is in first grade already. Here’s hoping for a safe and good year for everybody.
Fun postgame scene for
@VandyFootball
after a 24-21 win at Colorado State.
@KenSealsQB
presented the game ball to the entire group after his first career win.

Congrats to top 10 picks
@jackleiter22
and
@KumarRocker
. So fun watching those guys pitch and compete for the
@VandyBoys
, and an honor to call their games. Good luck guys!
Haven’t done morning radio in more than a year, still wake up ridiculously early on most days. Hard to reset the body clock I guess, after a lot of years of getting up in the middle of the night! 🕰🎙😴
It just occurred to me that around 10:20 I will hopefully get to watch one of my favorite things... Friday night high school football highlights. Bring ‘em on!
@WKRN
@WSMV
@NC5
@FOXNashville
A salute also to
@CaseyAlexander_
and the
@BelmontMBB
team, and seniors who played their final game tonight. Had the pleasure of calling 3 seasons of games for Grayson, Moose and Tate, and a few for Luke Smith. Congratulations guys!
Today is one of the times I really miss doing the morning show. The day after the Super Bowl is always fun, breaking down the game, commercials, halftime etc. I’d usually release my early mock for the first three rounds of the draft.
Also feel bad for
@VandyBoys
, not getting a chance to see what this season had in store. Had no idea when we left the ballpark last night that it would be the last game for 2020. Very cool to call games for this great program.
About to say so long to Omaha, after a fun two weeks.
Got to call 7
@VandyBoys
games
Saw at least part of 14 of the 16 CWS games
Walked to Iowa about a dozen times
Visited the zoo/Rosenblatt site
Hung out with cool friends
And one visit to South Dakota.
Ready to see my family!
