Humanity not politics. Joe Biden sent this personal letter 2 years ago after my wife was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the same brain cancer which took his son Beau’s life. It inspires me when I am feeling crushed by the weight of this insidious disease
Our 44th anniversary weekend. Despite the ravages of her brain cancer, Denise still possesses that sparkling smile. We are here to take care of one another
A personal update. My wife’s 2 plus year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer has evolved into more home care. I have a wonderful therapist who encourages the balance between being at home and time at
@KFAN1003
to be with my very good friends. I so appreciate all of you
After nearly 4 years of grieving, I asked myself about the kind of life I wanted. I have a wonderful woman in my life who has answered those questions. Karin Nelsen, the executive VP and Chief legal officer of the Vikings is that woman. Thanks to my kitty Willow who “found us”
First Christmas without Denise, her favorite holiday to celebrate with family and friends. She always came up with the most thoughtful, original gifts. It’s the little things that hit me square between the eyes, a Xmas song, her favorite winter coat, cookbooks. It hurts, a lot
So I find these on my desk at
@KFAN1003
upon my return today, handwritten notes of condolences from every Gopher football player including a very personal one from QB Tanner Morgan who lost his Dad to brain cancer recently.
#classy
Karin has brought pure joy back into my life and heart. I’m ecstatic she said YES! We are blessed with wonderful families and friends to share in our present and future together
Sometimes you just have to vent. My wife is having surgery today to remove a brain tumor. It was discovered in a blink of an eye. “When you see how fragile life can be all else fades into the backround.” Support the Brain Injury Alliance of Minnesota.
So honored the
@Vikings
asked me to sound the Gjallarhorn to honor my late wife Denise as part of their “Crucial Catch” campaign on Sunday to intercept cancer. It will be emotional and inspirational
My heart is full of gratitude for all the love in this time of grieving. “Trust that everything will be okay but that doesn’t mean everything will be restored. Look around and look ahead”. Looking forward to being back with my
@KFAN1003
family on Monday
There will be lots of firsts. My first Thanksgiving without Denise but tons to be thankful for. “You can’t go back, you have no choice but to go forward, walk don’t crawl toward your new life, your next life”. Give the present the gift of your full attention” Love you Nisie
One year ago this Monday, Denise passed away after first being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018. She endured everything from surgery to rounds of radiation and chemo without nary a complaint. She chose love and made every day more livable than yesterday❤️❤️❤️
My wife has terminal brain cancer. Her window of opportunity to travel to see famiy and friends is closing every day. I want to reopen more than you can imagine but in the meantime will listen to the health experts when it’s safer
It’s only been a week since my wife’s surgery for a brain tumor but I wanted to thank all of you for the truly staggering positive feedback. I have already seen first hand how many others are going thru similar battles against this insidious disease. Awash in optimism.
I want to share one more picture of Denise. Nearly every time after getting treatment at Abbott hospital she wanted to stop at the DQ nearby for her favorite treat. It brought her such joy. She would never let this insidious cancer define who she was.
The voters may very well kick Walz to the curb but for now how about teaching your niece about being selfless and understanding life isn’t fair. Our hospitals are filled with people from both parties, explain how dedicated our healthcare workers are. It’s a teachable moment
There are constant reminders, the first Mother’s Day without Denise. This was taken on Mom’s Day the year before she was diagnosed with brain cancer 4 years ago. My heart belongs to my kids, Nick and Chloe today. Her favorite flowers to be placed at her final resting place❤️
Not even his latest health scare could keep my “big brother” Don Shelby from keeping our long standing tradition of watching the title game together, christening my new apartment. This man means the world to me
Bud was like a 2nd father to me. I learned so much from him, life lessons I carry around every day. There will never be another like him. Love you eternally Bud
Today I honor my Dad who landed at Utah Beach in 1944. I have his dog tags, scrapbook, and memories of all he told me about what it was like to be there. I wish I had asked more
It's
@WCCORosen
's last day at WCCO, and the
@CBSThisMorning
crew are wishing Rosie all the best as he closes his 50-year stint here tonight at 10 p.m.!
Happy Birthday Denise. I believe the beauty of what is lost still belongs to this world. Everything comes down to this: love is what remains. It is the only thing that can fill us.
I am sharing this very personal day to say the unpredictability of life can produce a jumbo mass of emotions. From 2018 until this day in 2021 I was feeling the weight of despair and uncertainty. A wonderful support system kept me moving forward which has led me to this Friday
I've never heard so many horrific stories from Vikings fans who were subject to unsolicited hot dog, beer, battery throwing Eagles fans beyond the verbal abuse. One guy just told me he's been treated better in 3rd world countries. Yes it was scary for them
Appreciate the birthday wishes and more importantly helping me get thru the worst year of my life. The kindness from so many of you will never be forgotten. I’ve learned you are not betraying your grief by feeling joy
3 years ago today, Denise passed away after a long three year ordeal with brain cancer. You poured so much love and thoughtfulness to everyone around you, soaking in the gift of life so easily taken for granted. The serenity of this picture captured the essence of how you lived❤️
On my final week
@WCCO
I am going to share some of my favorite pics. I am 18, and Willie Mays was not happy I asked his opinion of interleague play someday.
.
@MaxWCCO
is a sports reporter who is doing a seriously impressive job out on the streets of south Minneapolis tonight. Thank you for helping us understand what’s happening.
Appreciate the well intended ribbing from everyone on the show for my sketchy phone video etc.This was the first time in over 3 years when I haven’t felt the crush of depression over the ultimate fate of Denise. Sharing a great week, I hope will help others to live your best life
Got home after a long day to find Willow playing with Denise’s makeup brush which she somehow latched on to from her makeup counter at a spot I thought was out of her reach. Made me smile and just wonder
Visiting Little Hospice House where Denise spent her final weeks. Gideon is the comfort dog who spent every Monday at her bedside. Gideon is leaving soon for Uvalde to help the kids who are going back to school!
Looking forward to returning to the airwaves tomorrow starting with the
@Coach_Fleck
show at noon on
@KFAN1003
from Senser’s and the 6 and 10 sportscasts on
@WCCO
. Much love to all for the continued support.
Its a never ending process but hit my goal of dropping 30 pounds through some very stressful times thanks to the team at Profile. The journey continues
We all knew this day would come, yet it still feels so shocking. The stories will be flowing for years to come. My sympathies Chad and my eternal gratefulness for being one of Sid’s “close personal friends.”
Favorite interview of all time. My sports hero, Sandy Koufax, after pitching batting practice as honorary captain in '85 All-Star game at Dome. Sandy rarely did interviews, i could barely breathe.
The best of times shared with Tom Hanneman. We were roommates, he was the best man at my wedding and beyond his tremendous skill set as a writer and broadcaster never lost his wit or deep sense of what was important. I am absolutely gutted by his loss
Never seen this picture before. State HS hockey tournament at Civic Center. The gang is all here, Herbie, Louie, Wooger, RJ, Hanneman, Cuthbert, Tony Parker etc. They sure loved those 4 patches
I am thinking of my long time friend and colleague, Tom Hanneman who sadly passed way too soon and how much he would have enjoyed this season after decades of covering the misery of Wolves ineptitude
You need to look at this through the lens of the fans,not through the eyes if a sportswriter or broadcaster. After two plus years of Covid and years of inept basketball, this was a reason to celebrate. No one thought they won the NBA title, there was pure joy, no more, no less
Couldn’t get back to sleep upon hearing of the passing of Chris Doleman, a gentle giant of a defensive end who always had a curious outlook on life, Glioblastoma brain cancer. Insidious, unrelenting. We cherish every day since my wife’s diagnosis 18 months ago.
#cancerwarrior
32 years ago today this precious baby came into our lives from Korea and has brought me pure joy and unconditional love in the best and toughest of times. My everlasting love, Chloe❤️❤️
Coming out of the Dark is a meaningful song. It’s also my current state of mind after nearly 4 years of grieving. Thanks to the unconditional love of my kids, my old friends and the comfort of new ones, I feel whole again. The grief will be there, but committed to the present
Allow me to be bursting with pride for my daughter,
@ChloeBRosen
, named new digital producer for CBSN, staying in the
@WCCO
newsroom where she has been an assignment editor since 2015. Chloe has been my backbone thru these impossibly tough last 3 plus years. My love is boundless
It was bound to happen. Bit by Covid. Mostly dealing with exhaustion issues, and some coughing. Sleeping, plenty of fluids and at least a sports bonanza on TV tonight. Willow is happy I’m home, I think.
All good things must come to an end. Travel day after an amazing 4 plus days of great food, better gambling and most importantly living life to the fullest. Never take this for granted.
#JeffandMarkMadness
8 year old Ella sent this letter to me and
@MeatSauce1
encouraging us to talk more women’s sports on the
@PowerTripKFAN
. I read it on
@CommonManKFAN
show. She sounds like a dynamo young girl who signed off with “Your advisor”. Duly noted Ella!
Thank you for all the kind words on the passing of my long time colleague and best friend, RJ Fritz. He was a gifted story-teller who never lost that small town charm from Sleepy Eye. What a blessing it's been to have him in my life all these years.
Facts are tough for you Jason. I never attacked the right to peaceably assemble, I said I would listen to the health experts when it was safer for us to travel in reaction to you saying Open Minnesota now! weeks ago.
Today’s forecast: mostly sunny w/ a chance of idiocy.
First ‘sports reporter’
@KFANRosen
attacks the right to peaceably assemble.
Now ‘weatherman’
@svensundgaard
does this.
#Covid_19
models are about as accurate as his forecasts.
@kare11
should fire him!
