Rejected from every PhD & MS program I applied to after undergrad. Got the shot I needed at Auburn w/ Rashad and now I'm a JACS published chemist with more high tier work in the way. I'm still a bit rough around the edges, but I'm here. I belong and so do you reading this.
I got rejected from almost 40 PhD programs over multiple years of applying. Prospective students disheartened by how cruel the application process can be: sending you posi vibes! . It can be so difficult especially when you see everyone else seemingly thriving #AcademicChatter.

One of the coolest tricks my advisor has shown me so far is making a "pen" for loading Prep TLC plates. Glass pipette cut short with cotton pulled tightly through. Load in your sample and boom! Paint! #chemtwitter

Can finally share my tatts I got for this paper! . One for my methodology arm and one for my total synthesis arm. The Junimo is from Stardew which rhymes with C2 and the molecule is deoxylasubine who's parent molecule comes from the Japanese Crepe Myrtle.

In undergrad I asked my mentor at MD Anderson if I would finally be a chemist when I got my bachelor's. He said "Nah you're a chemist now. You're doing chemistry literally right now. You're a chemist" . And that's stuck with me ever since.

One thing I've had to adjust to during my time at Pfizer, Boehringer, and now Vertex (also saw it at my pre grad school jobs), . No one works like this in an onsite job either. People chit chat, people talk, people hang out. It happens and it's fine.
I’ve yet to meet one person who works from home that actually works from 9am to 5pm with a 30 minute lunch in-between with the occasional bathroom break.
