Happy Birthday Founder Elder Watson Diggs! He was the 1st black to graduate with an A.B. degree from Indiana University’s School of Education and earned a MA degree from Howard University. He served as Grand Polemarch for the first 6 years, established the first 9 chapters.
110 years ago, on today’s date, January 5, 1911, ten black college students dared to dream and establish a fraternity on the campus of Indiana University. It provided them a sense of comfort, friendship, support and encouragement; motivated them to achieve and influenced others.

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of the 30th Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi and 75th Laurel Wreath Laureate, Samuel C. Hamilton. He will be remembered for his kind nature, warm demeanor, and perpetual mentor to all who sought his advice and experience.

Happy Birthday Founder John Milton Lee! Lee helped to establish the Epsilon, the Lambda and the Philadelphia (PA) Alumni Chapters. He is the only Founder to be cremated and his ashes are preserved in an urn located at International Headquarters in Philadelphia, PA.

“...and then there was one.” Following the death of Founder Byron K. Armstrong, Founder Edward G. Irvin was the last living Founder.
Founder Irvin was the youngest of the ten Founders; 17 years of age at the time of the founding.

In the fall of 1914, the Founders leased a five room home at 721 Hunter Ave. as their first fraternity house.
It was close to campus and allowed them to reside together in an ordered routine of study and cultural development that strengthened their bond.
In 1 week, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will celebrate its 110th Anniversary, founded on the campus of Indiana University, January 5, 1911. As our Fraternity looks toward our future, we also reflect on our past that defined and shaped us. Alpha Chapter 1913.

Happy Birthday Founder Paul W. Caine! He was instrumental in establishing the Beta, Gamma, Delta, Zeta and Theta Chapters. He was an entrepreneur, setting up the several Caine Catering Co. locations, as well as a restaurant and bakery, a 2nd hand clothing store and dry cleaners.
