Raising taxes on the wealthy isn't just practical—it's also popular. Recent polling from @nwlc found that 70% of respondents favor expanding the Child Tax Credit, 64% support expanding the estate tax, & 59% support raising the capital gains tax rate.

The Tax Revision Commission can't be relied on to deliver tax policy that supports DC residents. DC Council needs to get serious about raising revenue by taxing concentrated wealth—with or without the TRC's approval.
New: It's deja vu all over again for DC's Tax Revision Commission, which still can't deliver proposals to reform the city's tax system. With big business interests and even Mayor Bowser meddling with the process, will this group ever come up with answers?

Racial income disparities got worse in 2023. Median incomes for Black, Latino, and Asian residents stayed the same while median income for white households increased $12,000.
For those trying to push a narrative that DC residents need to just move on from humane, anti-eviction pandemic policies, according to many economists, we are still in a k-shaped economy these days, just worse. Economic inequality has gotten worse, not better.
