Today there was a press conference for Adam Ashley-Cooper who is due to play his 150th game for the Tahs tomorrow. Only one journalist turned up because everyone else was waiting for RA’s decision. The distraction here has been awful. IF’s selfishness is breathtaking.

It’s difficult to describe Lake Maggiore, it’s simply one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Today we were lucky enough to visit yet another beautiful Italian Garden, this one on Isola Bella. With the Italian Alps in the background it’s literally breathtaking.

The worst news about Merlot. He has an aggressive form of bone cancer and will need to have his leg amputated tomorrow.
A course of chemo will hopefully arrest the speed of this wretched disease. Poor little boy is only 2, but GS are particularly susceptible apparently

Frankly happy to have survived the drive between both with an Italian James Bond over the mountains 😁

A lovely drive from Perth down to Margaret River today, stopping on the way at wonderful Vasse Felix Winery for lunch.
A few nights now at the Margaret River Guest House, which is the most gorgeous restored cottage. How joyous to have a roaring fire!

Had dins tonight in Osteria Alle Testiere. The menu changes every day according to what is freshly brought into the fish market from the Lagoon. The most wonderful wine too, from vines on a local island and a variety dating back to 1300, the wine of the Doge’s apparently!

I had a feeling these might flower tonight so I set an alarm, braved the rain and mosquitoes and went out to have a look.
Two flowers from one leaf in two cases and one beautiful flower high in the canopy. The scent of them too is all encompassing, just lovely.

Following in Stanley Tucci’s footsteps last night by dining in Armando al Pantheon. Traditional Roman fare, artichokes and mozzarella followed by a carbonara so delicious the memory will stay with me forever. The wonderful sommelier recommended these, what a gorgeous evening!

Spent much of the day in beautiful Monterosso in Cinque Terre and had freshly made gnocchi with pesto for lunch. The secret ingredient to the most wonderful pesto? Butter!
Not nearly long enough in this beautiful part of Italy so yet another ‘must come back’ added to the list.

A few observations about Italy so far.
1. The water is deliciously cold coming out of the taps, I expect ours is slightly tepid because of the heat.
2. The ladies wear masses of make up, have beautifully shiny hair and are incredibly stylish.

There are so many lovely things flowering in the garden at the moment, it’s easy to overlook this little orchid. It was the very first I wired in, in 2012 I think.
I remember it was in a very sorry state in a bargain bin in Big W so I thought at $7 I’d give it a go.

It’s tonight!
One of the worlds most beautiful flowers, the Queen of the Night, which grows in a very ramshackle way under a tree in my garden, has flowered. The flowers only last one night and by morning, have withered.

Difficult to sleep. Such a sad week with my darling Hera crossing the rainbow bridge and news one of my oldest friends is ill with cancer. She was perfectly fine at Christmas but now she’s in hospital on morphine.
Life is so short and so precious, we must treasure every day 🙏🏻

So blessed to visit two of the world’s most beautiful gardens today. Villa Adriana and then Villa d’Este.
Built by Cardinal d’Este in a frenzy of showing off, the hundreds of fountains, jets and waterfalls work entirely by gravity, quite a feat given they’re 650 years old.

I remember so many of these games. France USA in Wollongong was accompanied by Can Can Dancers who we were sure distracted André Watson, and Scotland Fiji was incredibly close.
