Hey! Call me Julian or Juli. I’m an NYC based lover of stories of all kinds. Mixed Filipino, non-binary, any pronouns.
Current projects include writing fantasy tales, promoting indie TTRPGs, and performing around the Unsleeping City.
Fun personal Spider-verse fact is I auditioned for Miles and didn’t realize until I was in the theater watching the movie.
Like a lot of big productions they disguised the script as a non-supernatural story. When Miles and Aaron hit the sewers I was like WAIT I SAID THESE LINES
I may finally treat myself to Baldur’s Gate 3 after this next paycheck. For folks who have played it, is there anything you wish you knew before going in?
(I’ve played countless games of D&D 5E so not feeling TOO concerned about the character building aspect)
Obviously glad I didn’t get it and that it went to someone who could far more accurately portray the character. I was sent in by an agent I was freelancing with at the time without knowing much. But it’s always cool to get a taste of something big like that.
idk why this is popping off but everyone should check out acclaimed pre-colonial Southeast Asian fantasy TTRPG Gubat Banwa. Unlike D&D5E don’t need a GM to play it and you can ride a crocodile.
@kat_blaque
Filipino here and baffled about how people read her comments as racially insensitive in the first place. It looked like a clear narrative and tonal comparison instead of a cultural one.
She’s given a talk on how internet harassment messed up her life and like...here we are again
Plot twist of my LIFE just occurred I came out to my folks about being non-binary and not wanting to adhere to gender and my dad said “If I was your age I’d do the same thing”
Hey for no reason in particular remember how the Gubat Banwa kickstarter raised $40,000 dollars in one day for an excellent SEAsian culture and mythos inspired TTRPG system? That wasn’t a D&D expansion of any kind?
Idk maybe an actual TTRPG Golden Age is there on the horizon.
Seeing a lot of “what D&D class am I” and while that’s fun, I want to support an amazing class based indie TTRPG!
Reply to this tweet with your favorite hero OR villain and I’ll assign you a Gubat Banwa Discipline based off vibes! Who needs Bards when you have Strifesingers?
@WesternKabuki
This is so wild coming from a man who, famously and baselessly, called a British diver that was rescuing children a pedophile so loudly that they wrote news articles about it
Seeing comedians and writers who used to punch up become part of the aristocracy and then start punching down at the oppressed is one of the most deflating things about the future of art under capitalism
@lesbyleth
Not only were Byleth and Shez also referred to as forms, but Ike’s games were all about fighting racism and prejudice. A lot of commentary on sexism too with Elincia’s arc in Radiant Dawn. FE has never been for people like this.
@aGhostofeli
For real—when I was doing background work all the Marvel shows were listed under codenames on Casting Networks I guess so super fans wouldn’t find the sets
Omg it’s Filipino American History Month in the US? This is literally the best time to support award winning martial arts TTRPG Gubat Banwa!
With gameplay inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics, this pre-colonial TTRPG is available now with a kickstarter for physical books in a week!
Lindsay Ellis was the first video essayist who got me to think deeper about media, back with her original content. And still the evolution of her vids was staggering.
The content void will be filled because that’s the nature of things, but I’m going to miss her analyses.
@Scarlettbbydoll
Please direct your allyship towards things that actually matter for us Asian people. There are way better things to be doing with that level of enthusiasm and time than this whole eye rolling situation.
@prozdkp
I really don’t think he’s had to actually work a day in his life with how little empathy he had while disrupting the lives of these everyday businesspeople.
It’s my birthday tomorrow and as a gift to me you can check out pre-colonial Southeast Asian combat fantasy TTRPG Gubat Banwa, a thunderous celebration of revolutionary violence, inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics mixed with culturally specific mythology, rejoice in the glory of—
It’s hard to explain to real life friends that I adore tabletop games and play them every week but am over Dungeons & Dragons specifically. TTRPG=D&D to most people outside of it. I start saying things are different mechanically and their eyes fog up. Which is fair!
If you as a player want to make a good, engaging TTRPG actual-play you need to remember your ABDS:
Always Be Doing Something
Your GM has built an awesome world and story for you. Drive the ship! Don’t lose control, but make big in-character choices and embrace the consequences.
Putting it out into the TTRPG space that I’ve organized 3 all BIPOC tables for Gubat Banwa, and focus on bringing diversity and diverse groups of individuals to networks I’ve gamed with. If you want more active inclusion, I can refer you to a lot of good folks for your tables!
Today’s a great day to support SEAsians in TTRPGs!
Gubat Banwa’s campaign is halfway funded in just two hours, and the team deserves all that and more. This is a game that should be everywhere—from big TTRPG networks to home tables wanting to celebrate Filipino culture and myth.
Billy Eichner video where he’s running down the street yelling at people to name a Woman but instead it’s Brennan Lee Mulligan yelling at people to name a Bird
Cannot overstate how fresh this SEAsian Martial Arts and Magic TTRPG is. If you want a system that supports dynamic combat, inter-party dynamics, and solo play adventures, you can’t go wrong with Gubat Banwa. It deserves WAY more love and attention from the community!
The Thunderhead Keens! ⛈️⛈️
Due to unforeseen circumstances and the need to build a larger audience, we've delayed the Campaign to OCTOBER to be able to gather even more strength across the lands.

@Wigginnz
It’s very rare for projects to plan that far ahead—unless something is very specifically franchised far ahead of time with the same production team, or you become friends with a casting director, you’re only auditioning for the piece of media that’s in front of you.
Hello TTRPG, streamer, and VO Twitter! If you're looking to collab with:
-a TTRPG player/GM with a career in acting, VO, and improv comedy
-an award winning fantasy writer/audio series producer
-a Twitch affiliate
-a somewhat cool mixed-Filipino enby
Mabuhay! My inbox is open🤙
TERFs fear mongering over trans people potentially wanting to sleep with them is such an uncanny parallel to straight guys being afraid of the gay men who would never date them.
If you’re a bigot, chances are nobody is that into you.
@MaraWilson
I went back to my high school to do theatre w the kids and the improv team was making some surprisingly woke jokes about racist cops and other political issues
I honestly have so much hope for this generation
The biggest three D&D shows right now as far as viewership goes are still Critical Role, Dimension 20, and The Adventure Zone right? I’ve kind of fallen off keeping up with them and am wondering if things have shifted, and if any networks that don’t do D&D are anywhere near them
If you create an online artistic project (TTRPGs, VO, etc) and end up with an all white cast, there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with that.
But if it happens repeatedly, maybe ask why that is. Why, with the whole internet available, would it be a pattern for you/your network?
The TTRPG network I co-run is looking for more guest players and GMs for upcoming months!
@Role_D5
is our tabletop one-off channel where we play games beyond 5E to support indie designers. The Professional Guest Form and link to our Discord will be in the tweets below!
@FrancescoAlcan3
Even Mekkah confirmed the creepy ass logs in Soleil’s story are legit during Mang’s first apology
What type of proof do you require if multiple people’s stories, multiple people’s screenshots, and a history of sketchy behavior towards women isn’t enough? Will ANYTHING be enough?
As of last night I’ve playtested all 25 Gubat Banwa Disciplines in version 1.4!
Plans ahead:
-Make character guide videos
-Continue Anthology streams
-Hold a Zoom to teach the game
-4 rad TTRPG channels offered spots for me to run the system for them. Hope to start that soon!
TTRPG actual-play bloat is a tough issue. There’s too much out there to watch, but people still want the little organic moments between friends. A common suggestion I see is more editing. But I don’t think cutting 15 minutes of dice rolls out of a 3 hour video does much. (1/3)
@cherrizard
First character? Nervous around pretty girls.
Most recent character? Working himself to the bone to the point of exhaustion and falling asleep while keeping watch
The life struggles have uh, changed since I first played back in college
I’ve said it before but some of the biggest obstacles I see to being active in the TTRPG space are time and resources. You can work on things like acting skill and networking, but we have a time consuming hobby and a lot of marginalized folks don’t have much time to spare unpaid.
@ShadowTodd
Eh, at least they seem like they’re having fun. Personally it doesn’t quite hit the same tone deafness of celebs being performatively sad in their multi-million dollar homes while people were worried about rent and health, or just dying.
One of my issues with D&D is it feels biased against STR focused pugilists.
Monks are fine. But the Unarmed Fighting style for Fighters is mainly good for niche grappling, and you still need Monk levels to deal magic damage. A gauntlet weapon type for them would fix all of this!
@Drakoniques
Gubat Banwa has SEAsian martial artists on its team, and included their insights in class/Discipline design! It’s a combat system about learning techniques from various martial styles and philosophies of fighting as class progression.
Now that I’ve finished both Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo (there were tears) I’m having a lot of fun processing how they’re different.
Very different genres, both meandering journeys, the former’s plot was a slow burn while the latter’s happened all at once at the end.
From AAPI Month right into Pride Month!
Here’s the before/after since coming out as genderqueer three years ago. So much more free, so much more comfortable, and so much closer to the happier version of myself—internally and externally—that I’m working towards.
This is great to acknowledge because every comedian who goes viral, every amazing actor who seems to come out of nowhere, etc, has done years of less visible work to get to where they are
Persistence and refining your craft are way more important than our idea of what talent is!
for everyone enjoying Planet of the Bass:
one of the comedians behind it (Kyle Gordon) has been doing the DJ Crazy Times bit for 2 years and the original still makes me break out laughing without fail
@agenderKMT
Even before it was confirmed by the complimenter, someone with 150k followers being recognized one time in a major city is extremely reasonable
@JesseJerdak
You might enjoy Gubat Banwa! It’s a Southeast Asian created TTRPG that consulted Filipino Martial Artists for its combat. Instead of classes you’re a Discipline to a fighting style, and learn fighting moves across Disciplines as you go.
We’re trying to get the word out about it!
Common occurrences on an NYC subway
-screamin kids
-ppl crossing cars to dance for money
-ppl crossing cars to ???
-fall in love w stranger
-accidental pole hand touch w stranger but not the one ur in love with
-just lookin at shoes cuz you think it’s rude to look at faces
-pee
Just realized that since Gubat Banwa is a Filipino made game and Fabula Ultima is an Italian made game if I can get good at GMing both I’ll be dual wielding my heritages
@GreatCheshire
This is Siskel independent but I often think about Roger Ebert’s Thor review where he derided Tom Hiddleston’s antagonist role compared to Jeff Bridges/Obadiah Stane in Iron Man 1, saying that nobody out there will remember Loki as a great villain in comparison.
And here we are
@misspenart
No shade to WotC artists, but I’ll take the color and expression of anime inspired styles over attempts at hyper realism any day of the week
“For a new world to arrive, the old world must first die.”

Friday mornings starting tomorrow at 10amEST—less than 24 hours away!
I wish the TTRPG space could appreciate our favs without creating a hierarchy within the community.
Thinking about this a lot in regards to PAX and how the bigger names are probably gonna get swarmed by folks who think sudden friendship is a way out of doing this stuff for free.
When I did background work in NYC from 2016-2018 (Gotham, Succession, Manifest, many commercials, etc) we were often paid minimum wage for 8-11 hour shoot days. Days were long and mind numbing. But we did it for the chance of being featured and getting our SAG cards. (1/3)
-I now co-run an indie TTRPG centric Twitch channel with 500+ followers!
-Getting paid to do improv and teach acting!
-3.5 year relationship milestone!
-Better day job!
-New relationship to my heritage thanks to games and community!
-About to attend my first con in 15 years!
TTRPGs I am very confident in running:
-D&D 5E
-Gubat Banwa
-Honey Heist
-Quest RPG
TTRPGs I want to run more:
-Empty Cycle
-Kids on Bikes/Brooms
-Avatar Legends
TTRPGs I want to learn:
-Lancer
-Vampire the Masquerade
-Pathfinder
-Call of Cthulhu
Gubat Banwa funded within 24 hours 🥹🥹 So excited to see more people giving this TTRPG a shot.
Seems relevant so I’m sharing again that there are resources put together by the community to get started with the game! The creator has a free novel online in its setting as well.
Will be on vacation soon and won’t post as much about epic SEAsian TTRPG Gubat Banwa (I kno, ur so sad) but the community has videos out there if you want to learn about it!
11dragonkid has snappy edited playable class reviews and I’ve got system overviews and campaign streams
@jojo_hobbit
Super good to know! I know some companions lean into Barbarian/Rogue already but maybe it’s worth doubling up to try good versions of these classes
Twitter rules because every time you get a hater comment you can look at their profile’s replies/likes and it’s usually the saddest lil dude in the world
@WiruCiru
They could have but the point isn’t just that he’s a bad person, but that he begins the story too immature and irresponsible to sustain relationships with people of his age. It’s a commentary on this specific real life type of guy, like with Mr Peanutbutter in Bojack Horseman.
I have my first Twitch emotes 🥹🥹
Forever thanks to
@KimGrimoire
for the incredible commissioned work! Hire her, you won’t regret it.
And thank you to
@Timmie_Slimmie
for the input through the process!
Will get back to streaming, TTRPGs and otherwise, very soon!
@itsginnydi
The best DMs I’ve had could follow the fun, even if it means changing what they had planned
The best players I’ve had helped me build my stories. Not just through their backstory, but by driving the plot forward with their actions and desires
In short: Chaos. But helpful.
@LilySimpson1312
Every romanceable character in the Hogwarts Mystery mobile game (I think there’s 8?) is bisexual for your character, and can be dated regardless of your gender. But it’s a super niche point-and-click game full of microtransactions
Want to improve your TTRPG acting skills? Here's signup for the first of 6 classes teaching you how to do so! Acting 101 will be on MONDAY MARCH 20th and the next 5 will be on following Mondays.
Class 1: How to act from behind a screen.

It’s a long way off, but I’d love if for AAPI month next year there were multiple GMs and TTRPG channels running Gubat Banwa. A system conceived, written, and illustrated by a Filipino and SEAsian team that deserves more love.
Going to do my part and keep getting it out there.
I’m already streaming two all BIPOC Gubat Banwa games with talented and wonderful friends, and that’s a dream already.
But an in-studio production with maps and minis we could hold in our hands, and a camera crew and editing team for the uploads would be mind blowing.
You are producing a TTRPG Actual Play podcast or stream.
You have an infinite budget.
You can play any game.
You can get your dream cast.
What do you make? Tell me about it.
