A full moon on Halloween? What in the 2020? Full moons on Halloween are incredibly rare — the last time this occurred was in 2001 and it won't occur for another 19 years. This full moon will also be a Blue Moon, meaning it is the second full moon in one calendar month.

Yesterday, the park experienced a small fire in the dumpster by Boy Scout Trail. The year 2020 is already a big enough dumpster fire, so please do your part in preventing #wildfires by only building fires in established fire rings!

Starting June 14, the 49 Palms Trail will be closed to allow bighorn sheep undisturbed access to the oasis water. The park is under extreme drought conditions and herds must rely on the water to survive. The closure will remain until summer monsoons increase water availablitly.

Why did the tortoise cross the road? To get to the other side! Tortoises walk with confidence: they know where they're going and where they want to be! If you spot a tortoise in the road, the best way to assist is by playing crossing guard if it is safe to do so.

Due to their high heart rate and small body size, the average hummingbird must eat at least half its weight in nectar and insects per day in order to survive. If the average person had this same metabolism, they would need to eat roughly 150,000 calories per day! #NationalBirdDay
