My friend was riding @SFBART, spotted a rider reading my book and was kind enough to snap a photo for me. Still blows my mind that I wrote a #TrueCrime book. I work in baseball. I had no clue what I was doing, but figured it out. Don't let your current job define who you are.

How about this? If the owners do get a salary cap, there MUST also must be a freeze on the cost of tickets, parking, merchandise, concessions, local TV subscriptions, new streaming partners. Zero increases on the consumer.
Whether to pursue a salary cap has been a central topic for Major League Baseball’s owners this week during meetings in Florida

A legend among legends, an icon, the ultimate newsman. I loved his delivery, especially how dramatically he pronounced “San Francisco” on first reference. We watched KTVU every single night at my house growing up. I was star struck when he attended my friend’s wedding. RIP
KTVU anchor Dennis Richmond died at the age of 81 on Wednesday. On our noon newscast, we talked to KTVU staff and community members on his life and legacy in the Bay Area.

Love this part. It's really that simple: "There’s yet another story of baseball creating a lifelong fan because the sport was accessible. A few good seasons, affordable seats, being able to watch on TV, that’s where the hook is."
Interview #55: @lizzzzzzzzzzy, Topps Card "It's the Church of Baseball, right? You go, you worship at the Church of baseball. Sometimes things work out your way, most often they don't. But you just got to keep showing up." (link in comment below)

I'm fascinated if all of Ohtani's pitching tuneups will be "simulated games" against teammates? Or would the #Dodgers take him out of the lineup for a minor league pitching rehab appearance?

I echo that this was interesting. I learned a lot. I think (but don't know) if the quantity of scorers at a ballpark is/was a factor in lack of consistency. We rotate 4 in Abq. Some teams in the PCL have 1-2. The technology & education makes 4 scorers more consistent-ish.
Pretty interesting article by Sam Miller (@SamMillerBB), former Editor-in-Chief of Baseball Prospectus and a co-host of the Effectively Wild Podcast (I'm always available as a guest FYI!) Here is the article, and in it he posits that everything is a hit, and has some data to back it up. Now, his basic premise is that reaching on error (ROE) is going down because scoring has changed, and that's potentially due to the pandemic when scorers had to score at home. I agree it's changed, but I would argue the other side. Instead of scoring changing because of the technology available, I'd argue that scoring NOW is better because of the technology, and the ROE is probably correct. As MLB has had a much better educational program and as scorers have had more tools, they have not just been better but more consistent, and that has led to better scoring and a proper baseline of ROE. My argument is that the high rate of ROE back in the early 2000s/late 1990s is because there wasn't good consistency, education and technology. It was old-school scorers who scored, were on an island and did their own thing. Now with the new technology, plus having scorers who are honestly more well-rounded as stringers and such, scoring now is better, and more consistent. Overall I did enjoy the article, and it's worth the read.

Here in Albuquerque, we've had 6:35 pm starting times for many years now. Overwhelming majority of games end between 9:15-9:45 pm. Between the earlier start times and pace-of-play, it's like we got an hour of our lives back every day.
A family-friendly trend: Over the last four seasons, @MLB clubs have scheduled more early weekday start times. Coupled with improved pace of play, the number of weekday games ending prior to 10:00 p.m. has nearly doubled from 2021 to 2024, to 87.8%.
