-Only Minneapolis mandates minimum police staffing.
-Most charters don't require a police department at all and leave the details to ordinances.

Hennepin County Attorney is an elected office, and for many voters, Moriarty's criticisms of law enforcement (which were a very vocal part of her campaign) were a feature, not a bug. To follow through on this request would be a slap in the face to Hennepin County voters.

Update: I checked the city charters of all MN charter cities with a population of 20,000 or more (31 cities). Minneapolis is the only one with a minimum police staffing requirement. Not all of them even have a specific requirement for a police department at all, but some do.

I don't know if you watched the same end of session I did, but after this session, I support rules changes to give the minority less of a voice. Republicans didn't want to negotiate, they wanted to run out the clock.
As a former Senate Minority Leader, it saddens me to witness the erosion of this institution. The minority must always have a voice in the legislative process. May we find the courage to work together to restore the public trust and that of each other.

The same judge has now ruled the original ballot language had too much detail and the new ballot language has not enough detail, so the council needs to adopt even newer ballot language that is based on what I am calling the "Goldilocks Doctrine" of ballot question law.
Judge has tossed the public safety charter amendment ballot language, calling it "vague, ambiguous" and "unreasonable and misleading." Council will be meeting, possibly today, to set new language.

The Charter Commission is not a "body of the city," period. There isn't even a need to debate whether it is "legitimate." The commission is created by state law and appointed by the Chief Judge of Hennepin County.

So, think about it like this: Ranked choice voting is awesome because it let’s you do two things. It lets you vote sincerely for the person you like best (in my case, Sheila). But it also gives you multiple chances to block the person you like least (Jacob, obvs).
