In which sense? It is clear that the kind of causation in such systems is quite different from how we think about causation naively, but Simon's approach seems applicable also in complex systems.
What are some articles claiming that there can be no causation in complex dynamical systems? There are some in the physics lit on Russell's anti-causal argument, and others in the life/cog sciences making general claims about complexity/diff eqs. Would be good to make a list.

That is impressive! Or did it just learn the causal directions by heart from the papers it was trained on?
On pairwise causal discovery, LLMs like GPT3.5/4 obtain >90% accuracy on detecting causal direction (does A cause B?) on the Tubingen benchmark spanning physics, engg, medicine & soil science. The prompt uses variable names & asks the more likely causal direction. Prev SoTA: 83%

This work by my former PhD student Tineke Blom has drastically changed my view on causality in complex systems. Bottom line: real-world complex systems show causal semantics that is much more complex than we are used to in DAGs.

@wellingmax Good question. We (scientists) should also redesign conferences. Perhaps a global virtual event, with local gatherings in each country, or even in each larger city. (Because of time zones, you would miss half of the program, though...)
