"A new study explores the conditions in an extremely distant galaxy at z=12 to understand how early galaxies may evolve to form the objects we see now in the local universe." Thanks @AASNova for a nice summary of our recent work involving @almaobs and @JWSTObserver observations!
Faraway Fossils: Clues from a High-Redshift Galaxy Shining from billions of light-years away, the universe's first galaxies provide a wealth of information regarding galaxy formation and evolution. New observations of one such galaxy reveal more.

@Lafe_Nelson @almaobs This feature cannot be observed with JWST simply because it is redshifted into submillimeter wavelengths. But it is not just the detection that is significant, it is what we are learning from it.

@Introspect_Rych @AAS_Publishing Thanks, Rychard! Great to see that ALMA detections at z>10 are finally starting to roll in!

About a year ago, we pointed the JWST telescope (@JWSTObserver) at what we believed might be one of the most distant galaxies known to date, and detected 13.4-billion-year-old photons emitted by hydrogen and oxygen atoms. You can find the full details in the paper linked below!
.@JorgZavala et al. present an in-depth analysis of a JWST-discovered high-redshift galaxy at z=12.33. Combining images with the detection of atomic lines, they found extreme conditions in a bright galaxy, likely associated with a young starburst.
