Unfortunately, nuclear physics is hard. To extract, the pionic contribution we must know some other matrix elements and the uncertainty on those is a bit too large for comfort. More work is needed to really connect measurements of 2vbb to help guide 0vbb searches.

Fortunately there is a way out: by considering more beta-decay processes we can sacrifice some data to fit the CKM element Vud and the strength of two-nucleon decays at the same time. We aim to do this in future work.
