This was the icing on the cake to an already awesome storm chase. And what better place to witness this storm than near Wakita, OK.

TORNADO TIMELAPSE - Sycamore, IL 8/9/21 - This was just one of six tornadoes I captured in Northern Illinois back in August. The sirens add a creepy atmosphere to this destructive EF-1.

Possible TORNADO just south of Beaver, OK earlier this evening with
@RiskeChris
It was brief but definitely seemed to be on the ground. We did also see an ambulance rushing north from the potential path, not sure if that was a tornado-related injury.

Watch how this tornado was born just outside of Sycamore, IL on August 9th, 2021. You can see how multiple vortices coalesce into one just after it impacted empty buildings...

Massive supercell completely eats up the NE Kansas skyline on June 11th, 2022. There was an EF-2 deep behind the rain but I didn’t dare face softballs to get inside 😅
Unbelievable tornado chase today. Lots and LOTS of stuff to go through but here are a few rough cuts of the best intercept today. Got much, much closer than this which you’ll see in the video coming out tomorrow.

1) Far too many chasers are in it for web clout and not the love of weather.
2) Chasing in Dixie is never remotely worth the money some of y’all spend to do it.
3) Non-meteorologist chasers should stop publicly sharing their custom “outlooks,” especially high school kids
Imagine being SO miserable that you take the time to post people having fun and calling them weirdos and wannabes. Tyler and Becca are both amazing chasers but the fact that the dude has no idea he’s making fun of Tim Marshall is hilarious.
March 17th, 2021 was a huge moment for me. My entire life I’ve wanted to chase storms and photograph tornadoes. I made this little project in second grade and here I am 15 years later photographing my first legit tornado.
Never stop chasing.
#stormchaser
I gotta say, I’ve always admired Reed Timmer’s chasing career but last night the man who so many young chasers look up to was setting a HORRIBLE example. Several occasions of reckless driving and being north of a tornado that could occlude at any moment… We cannot ignore this.
Thread 🧵:
I don’t typically share my opinions here but I do want to point out that
@GirlsWhoChase
are doing work that the storm chasing community has desperately needed. I support every single chaser out there, regardless of gender.
A year ago today, I had the best tornado chase of my career. 6 tornadoes captured from Esmond/Kirkland to Sycamore/Virgil, IL west of Chicago. Despite unwarranted criticism, the was one of best tornado chases in recent years and will go down as one of my all time favorites!
We need a new name for “wall cloud.” Clearly the name implies that any cloud that looks like a wall (shelf clouds, roll
clouds) is therefore a wall cloud. Hence why so many chasers and the entire general public mistakenly report them. I can’t think of a good alternative tho lol
Okay but like, the “Manhattan Monster” from June 11th 2022 is too good to deep fry. What a freaking unit of a supercell. Check out the radar scan of this thing 🤯
Before yesterday’s chase, I kept joking around about how much it looked like a plains setup in May… I didn’t actually think it would pull off a plains setup in May. 😅🤠

8,300 miles later, I’m home after at the best trip to the plains I’ve had so far. Bagged over 10 tornadoes, saw tons of supercells, and hanged with so many awesome people. Can’t wait to do it again next year.
I’ve been seeing more chasers claim scud features like this as tornadoes. Structurally it wouldn’t make sense for a tornado to be here - it’s gonna be to the left behind the RFD rain. And in fact there is a rain-wrapped EF-1 damaging Marysville, KS on 6/11/22 at this exact moment
Say some prayers for my dad, y’all. He went in for a routine surgery yesterday but since then he is extremely poor condition. Catatonic, unable to speak, eat, drink, or perform the simplest of tasks. I’m at a loss for words.
My good friend
@strmchasinchuck
gave me a crash course tonight on Lightroom and this is the result of my first attempt. What better test photo than Earth, TX…
Nothing like chasing three weeks, day after day, another S-tier supercell after another… thousands of miles with only tiny funnels and dust swirls to show for a tornado.
And then this happens on the least-expected day.
This is why I chase.
Alright kids, pay close attention to what I’m about to say - THIS is a mothership. Your sculpted LPs and high based high plains grunge are NOT motherships.
I try my darndest not to brag about this really cool storm chasing thing that I do, but as someone who eventually wants to do this for a living, 200k views is nuts!! I want to thank everyone who’s supported me in this hobby and everyone who’s watched and shared my content ☺️
Maywood, NE 6/9/22 - There’s something about a sculpted supercell in Nebraska that’s always mystifying. Dream chase for me!

This is a stack of about 5-6 images from near Two Buttes, CO on June 7th, 2022. You can really see how concentrated the strikes were just to the side of the mesocyclone!

May is completely and utterly dead and cancelled after today. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be out on the plains in the second half of May. Stay home and save your money. Chase season is over and cancelled. Done. Dead. Couldn’t snore any louder right now.
Looks pretty gnarly but from a chasing perspective, nothing about this setup looks enjoyable. Fast motions, low cloud bases, poor road networks/terrain. Gonna be an incredibly difficult chase and I’m just too lazy anymore
My personal top four tornado intercepts of 2021.
1. Sycamore, IL - August 9th
2. Earth, TX - May 16th
3. Selden, KS - May 24th
4. Moundville, AL - March 17th
Word of advice to my chaser friends - try to develop some healthier coping skills because some of y’all get WAY too shook when you miss a tornado. You can’t expect yourself to be on the right storm 100% of the time. Just enjoy life while it lasts because it doesn’t last long.
Manhattan, KS 6/11/22 - After watching 3 initial supercells in Nebraska all produce lowerings, the middle one took over and absolutely DOMINATED the sky for several hours.

After the incredible 5/28/23 Stratford, TX supercell meandered over the plains, a squall blasted through. It ate up the supercell and produced one of the most badass shelf clouds I’ve ever seen!
Combined a few long exposures and they REALLY highlight just what an absolute unit of a supercell we saw on 5/25/23 in Grady, NM. Two nights in a row of monster motherships will not soon be forgotten.
@kyleweller180
Yesterday, I learned that ridiculously high bases make for some ridiculously colorful sunsets. Couple more lightning shots from last night as well near Pretty Prairie, KS

A bit of news… I am leaving Wichita and moving back to Ohio next month to take care of my parents. Some thoughts and prayers for us would be appreciated. I’ll be getting my old job back and will still be chasing the plains in the spring. But family comes first.
I don’t think I’m mentally prepared for just how much I’ll be chasing this year… But I am pumped. Only 10 days until I’m a citizen of the Great Plains.
Officially put in my dates for Chasecation 2024. I will see some of you under a meso from May 29th through June 19th. Possibly some big moves coming this season 👀
