If Jack Smith held off on Trump's prosecution so as to not have an impact on the election, that too would be political. Trump deserves the presumption of innocence but what he is accused of in the federal cases is so significant, we need verdicts before people vote.

The timing of the trial is understandably bothersome for Trump. He should offer to advance it to late this year. It reduces interference with his campaign and has the added bonus of letting voters know if he is a convicted felon.
