Bornean #mammal mystery solved! The Bornean Black #Shrew, previously only known from a single specimen, was found to belong to the newly described genus Palawanosorex, making it the second member of this genus, and the first from Borneo:

I enjoyed the well written 'In Memoriam' of E.O. Wilson written by Dan Simberloff that was published in @ASNAmNat today. 60+ years later, character displacement, the taxon cycle, and chemosensory ecology all have a huge impact on my research.

Just noticed @SolomonKurz added some more chapters to his amazing “Statistical Rethinking v2 with brms, ggplot, and the tidyverse”. This project is awesome beyond belief, and a resource I use almost every day. Thanks @SolomonKurz !!!

The article ultimately stresses the importance of continued collections of specimens along with tissues and data. Museum collections can act as a bridge between (perceived) disparate fields such as virology and ecology. Specimens and collaborations have never been so important.
