I echo these words of Premier
@DanielAndrewsMP
:
Racists and bigots have no place in politics. They have no place in our parliament.
And they have no place in our state.
The Liberal Party are actively supporting candidates who espouse those views.
This is fundamentally wrong.
As the votes continue to be counted and the great work of democracy concludes, it is clear I won’t be returned as the Member for Hawthorn.
I am delighted to have played my part in the ascendency of progressive governments at a state and federal level. 1/2
I rang John Pesutto earlier and congratulated him on a well earned victory. I commend him on the work he has put in to winning back the seat.
I wish John, his wife Betty and future electorate office staff all the best for the next four years.
It was an honour to meet the Prime Minister
@AlboMP
yesterday.
Albo grew up in public housing in Camperdown. He proves that anyone can become the leader of our wonderful country if they have the right support such as a roof over their head.
It has been one of the great privileges in a long life to have served in the Andrews Government these last 4 years.
Service to my community has always been my number one motivation & I want to thank you all for the support rendered during these years.
Goodbye and good luck.
It's extremely humbling to be the new member for
#Hawthorn
. I want to thank all my supporters who did so much to help achieve this historic result. My promise is to work hard every day to repay the faith put in me. I wish John Pesutto all the very best for the future.
Congratulations to Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah and the Higgins campaign team for making history this weekend.
I wish you the best of luck. Higgins has voted for change.
Congratulations
@DanielAndrewsMP
on a third successive election victory. Victoria has once again elected a progressive government committed to doing what matters!

Labor banned fracking. It’s in the Constitution.
Now the Liberals want to “turbocharge gas production” by fracking Victoria.
We can’t let them poison our water.

Unfortunately, I’ve tested positive for Covid for the first time in my life. I’ll be isolating until I test negative.
My amazing volunteers will continue the campaign in my absence. I hope to join them for pre-poll early next week.

I note the strong Yes result in Kooyong and commend
@Mon4Kooyong
advocacy. I also note the lack of leadership on this matter by the current Member for Hawthorn who is firmly at odds with his constituents.

We are bringing back the SEC.
This is about more than just electricity. It's about opportunity.
Opportunity to support thousands of workers, their families and communities while ensuring our transition to renewable energy and net zero emissions with government-owned energy.
Great to be joined by my son Patrick for the final push at prepoll today. I am so grateful to my family for their love and support over the past 4 years.
Over the thousands of conversations my volunteers and I have had this campaign, I've noticed that one issue has come up on all sides of the political spectrum: Mental Health.
That is why I am proud to say that Victorian Labor is doubling the mental health workforce.
For those who are unsure, I was pre-selected as the Labor candidate for Hawthorn months ago and intend to stand at the 2022 Vic State Election.

Hi Leo, I was not running dead. My team ran a strong, grassroots campaign and were significantly outspent by our opponents. We worked incredibly hard and I’m very proud of our campaign. Cheers John
It won’t change the final result but this is evidence of the strong grassroots Labor campaign we ran in Hawthorn, despite being outspent 6 to 1 and 10 to 1 by my competitors.

Final Liberal versus Labor count for Hawthorn up at Independent Melissa Lowe failed by 106 votes to reach second place during the distribution of preferences.

Victoria and the Andrews Government are leading the way in fighting climate change in Australia.
Our target of 75-80% emissions reduction by 2035 makes Victoria one of the fastest, if not the fastest, jurisdictions in the world in reducing emissions.
Former Labor MP for Hawthorn, John Kennedy, is an interested party in the public gallery at the first hearing of the Deeming vs Pesutto defamation case.

A re-elected Andrews Government will set up a government owned energy company! It will deliver cheaper power bills and lower emissions, while putting power back in the hands of Victorians.
Fantastic to see such strong testing numbers again.

BREAKING: Victoria Opposition & Liberal Leader John Pesutto has announced he will vote No in the Referendum on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Good morning, Hawthorn!
What a beautiful day for an election and to return a Government and local Member who will get things done that matters.
Over the course of this campaign we have had over 15,000 conversations and completed 10,000 doorknocks. It’s now over to you.
Does anyone know what the member for Box Hill Paul Hamer or the member for Hawthorn John Kennedy has contributed to the East since they were elected to the Victorian parliament?
Just asking.
Great to join the Premier & the PM this morning. We’re ready for one big final push till Election Day.
Only Labor will deliver:
⚡️ Action on climate change
💰 Cost of living relief
📃 A treaty with Indigenous Victorians🏨 Mental health reforms
🚊 World class public transport
The Commonwealth Government provided business support to construction businesses in NSW affected by their construction shutdown - in addition to the COVID Disaster Payment.
Why not in Victoria? Why the double standard, Treasurer?
#FromVictoriaNotForVictoria
Prepolls have closed and Election Day is tomorrow. What am I most proud of about this Government?
Our climate policy.
We have one of, if not the worlds most ambitious renewable generation targets (95% by 2035). 1/3

One thing I've heard time and time again this election from my constituents is that they are concerned about the cost of living.
That is why Victorian Labor has a real plan, with policies like free kinder, the $250 Power Saving Bonus and Free Tafe.
Over one third of Hawthorn residents are renters, which is why I've been a strong supporter of the 130+ new rental protections implemented by the Andrews Government.
Because every single Victorian deserves secure, liveable, affordable housing.
The Feds should not cover for Vic Govt incompetence and incentivise more cruel lockdowns. How can we expect a miner in WA, a farmer in NSW or a tourism operator in Queensland to pick up the bill for the ineptitude of Vic Ministers?

Well, consider me chuffed! I have been included in a fringe group's recent campaign and not only did they state the bleeding obvious, they included a magnificent photo of me!
I condemn the individuals who have defaced and stolen corflutes and election material in Hawthorn.
This campaign should be about competing visions for our area, not petty politics.
#hawthornvotes
Look who stopped by Camberwell prepoll today!
@brucewhalley1
Melbourne’s Happiest Tram Driver.
We are so fortunate to have Bruce driving route 70 and 75 trams through Hawthorn and Camberwell, and Bruce always brightens the day of his passengers.
#hawthornvotes
We're also bringing forward our net zero target by 5 years to 2045 and slashing our emissions by 75-80% by 2035 - one of the most ambitious targets in the world!
My re-election campaign is underway and I'm excited to be a hosting a Politics in the Pub event next Thursday with
@MartinFoleyMP
!
Come on down to the Elgin Inn and hear from myself and Martin about why this election is so important for the future of our state.

I have been in discussions today with Boroondara Council on behalf of the Andrews Government regarding the 🚀.
Highly likely the Rocket will stay put.
I will keep you updated.
At 73, I have never driven a car. So it's fair to say I know a thing or 2 about public transport. I was delighted to support the Transport Legislation Amendment Bill today, one which enhances a VERY good public transport system in Victoria. Am I right or am I right
@BenCarrollMP
?
I received my first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine at Access Health and Community, in Hawthorn.
Thank you to Yijun for looking after me so well.
I strongly encourage everyone who can to make an appointment to get vaccinated. ✌️✌️✌️
Wearing your mask might make you feel like the student who wore their uniform on casual clothes day at school. But they are absolutely essential when taking public transport. Mask up! 😷👍
TWO YEARS AGO TODAY
I was honoured to be elected as the Member for Hawthorn. I will always be grateful for this gift from my constituents who certainly gave an old bloke a new lease on life!
While the first two years have been extremely productive - the best is still to come!😃
12 months ago today, the Toorak Rd level crossing was removed...
Six months ahead of schedule.
What a difference it has made to traffic congestion in our community!
@JacintaAllanMP
I was not asked for comment for this article.
If I was, I would've said this: Thousands of Victorians are waiting for a home, and speedy delivery of this vital project is a priority. I have been overwhelmed by the level of local support and good-will 👍
As a principal I saw how important sport is for our students & the community.
That is why the Andrews Government has delivered $11.5M for Swinburne Senior Secondar College to upgrade their facilities at Fritsch-Holzer Park, to better serve students & community.

📣 Look out for my volunteers and I across Hawthorn this weekend, knocking on doors and at street stalls!
Today my street stall will be in Camberwell at Station Street. Look forward to chatting.
