ultimately i think it’d be technically possible to reverse engineer the skype detection program to use with any voip software. just a lot of work. the fact this thing worked up until skype 7 was discontinued in 2018 is CRAZY though. this thing looks sick on my desk.

the phone itself is crazy for what it is. you can page it from the base station, and there’s like 15 ringtones (some of them are BANGERS)

the software it requires for the base station was missing from the box, so i had to dig through an internet archive manifest to find the drivers. once installed it demands skype, and surprisingly it works with every skype version made until 2018 (when MSFT killed classic skype)

however, it DOES show up as a speaker and microphone in windows. it just doesn’t pass anything through unless it’s on a skype call. it used a program called “usbdect.exe” to activate the phone based on if there’s an ongoing call.

oh and this is what the skype button does. it’s supposed to bring up your contacts list, but since i can’t log into skype 7, it does nothing.

’s awesome reverse engineering job, the Skype phone is now functional as a speaker/mic and can therefore work with Discord! And… do other things, too.
