This is something that will come with better profiles of defenders in the squad.
Branthwaite and Diomande are two examples. They allow us to play more like how Ethan has described below.
Sign players in that mould, and we will see much better results.
Diogo Dalot, acknowledging that to go to the next level, we have to “fix” the space conceded btwn. lines.
Answer? Coaching, yes, but more importantly, defenders that take authority by closing the large space, engage dribblers high 1v1. Turn passiveness into assertiveness.

Gomes is quite a press-resistant player. Standing at just 5ft 6in, he has a low centre of gravity and is very agile.

Olise’s combination play in tight spaces is very tidy, and he retains the ball well. He often links up with midfielders who make underlapping runs ahead of him, something the likes of Mason Mount or Bruno Fernandes would excel at.
