The reason we see games in the literal HUNDREDS of GB is because they don't compress their files at all.
It's as simple as having MP4 (or OGM if you dont want to pay licensing fees when you release) instead of MOV for video files, least for cutscenes.

Yeah, EVERY game on Switch NO MATTER WHAT has several frames of extra input lag as compared to other platforms, as well as lower performance in games overall. Pokemon Unite, a (pretty much) first-party game performs so well that it is more competitively viable to play on PHONES.

2 thoughts here. 1) I think the nature of Odyssey's level design/gameplay loop lends itself quite well to NO lives, whereas most of 2D Mario doesn't, they're too linear to exclude lives. 2) Maybe the player switches between the characters like in Mario 2?
