It was a long but incredibly rewarding day in Sparks! We made some real progress discussing the regionalization of our fire services. Ensuring our residents get the closest help when they need it most is a top priority, and this collaborative effort is a big step forward. Shout out to Senator Skip Daily and Senator Taylor for being a state resource and advocate for our efforts in Carson! I also had the privilege of joining our law enforcement leadership and fellow elected officials from Reno, Washoe County, and WCSD in a productive conversation with the Latino community. Building strong relationships and open communication are vital to a thriving and safe community for everyone. Big shoutout Secretary Aguilar, Senator Flores, Commissioner Garica, Council-members Abbott and Miguel for joining this evening! I even got to make it to my daughter’s volleyball game!! A great day for Sparks! #SparksNV #CommunityFirst #PublicSafety #RegionalCooperation

My heart is heavy with the news of the North Las Vegas officer who was tragically killed in the line of duty. My deepest condolences go out to the officer's family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. It's in moments like this we recognize the danger our law enforcement officers face every single day. This brave officer's dedication to protecting our community is evident in his courageous actions. Even while critically injured, he remained in the fight and ultimately stopped the threat, preventing further harm to the public. His selfless service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We are grateful for his unwavering commitment to our safety. The suspect is also deceased. We mourn the loss of this officer and honor his memory. #NorthLasVegas #Police #FallenHero #Community

Ok, I can’t anymore… The recent and upcoming ICE operations in Nevada, and especially in Washoe County, targeting NON-violent, hard-working members of our community are a tremendous waste of resources and a devastating blow to families. While I 100% support the apprehension and deportation of violent individuals, I struggle greatly with the impact on families, particularly those where minor American citizens are involved. These American-born children are protected by the United States Constitution (like it or not), and their well-being must be a paramount consideration. I believe in the rule of law, and I recognize that our system needs reform. However, simply demanding the mass removal of people is not the answer. It doesn't address the complex issues we face. We need solutions that uphold our laws while also acknowledging the human element and working towards a more just and sustainable system. These operations are not solely focused on individuals with violent criminal records (which I can get behind); they are targeting the very people who contribute to our community, working hard in agriculture and hospitality. These children worry about coming home from school, unsure if their parents will still be there!! Tearing apart families, especially those with American-born children protected by our Constitution, is unacceptable. We must ask ourselves: what is the human cost? How many children will be left without parents, requiring the support of our already strained State, County, and Local human social and safety resources? Make no mistake, this bill will be passed down to the STATE and LOCAL governments/ taxpayer. Guess I’ll just ask a blunt question. When was the last time you saw a Latino person asking for a handout on an off-ramp in our county? These are the people who build the very homes here which they cannot afford, who clean the hotel rooms they could never book. Are we really saying 'get out' to the very people who make our community function?

A community that only looks out for itself is not sustainable. We must support people who are in need of help. Only then can we build a strong and thriving community for all. #community #support #helpingothers

As a law enforcement officer who responded to the Reno riot, I've seen firsthand the violence that threaten a community and the sacrifices our officers make every day. I remember kissing my loved ones goodbye, not knowing what is about to happen, and that memory fuels my unwavering support for the brave men and women in uniform nationwide. The recent blanket of pardons of violent criminals who attacked numerous officers are deeply disturbing. This decision is not only a betrayal of public trust but also a demoralizing blow to those who put their lives on the line to protect us. It sends a dangerous message that their sacrifices are not valued and that their safety is of little consequence. I want to be clear: I 100% support the right to organize and protest for changes, beliefs, and advocacy. This is a cornerstone of our democracy. But I also support law and order, and when a crowd turns violent and destructive, I condemn that behavior. This isn't about a party issue or topic; this is about humanity and a basic understanding of right and wrong. I proudly and openly stand in support of our law enforcement officers. In Sparks, I will do everything to ensure that those who assault and commit battery face the full weight of the law. Anything less is a disservice to the brave individuals who uphold the law and protect our cities, county, state, and country. We owe them our unwavering support, and we must demand justice for those who put their lives at risk to keep our communities safe. These photos offer a glimpse into the chaos and violence our American officers faced. They serve as a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers confront every day and the sacrifices they make.

Productive conversation today with Reno Councilman Miguel Martinez. Public safety is a top priority for both of us, and it's going to take regional collaboration to achieve our goals. Looking forward to continued partnership! #RenoSparks #MakingADifference

🚨 Sparks Residents, Be Aware! 🚨 It's come to my attention that our state emergency dispatch is critically understaffed AGAIN today, operating with only ONE dispatcher. This is an outrageously dangerous situation that puts our community and region at risk. Not only is this jeopardizing public safety, but it's also incredibly unfair and unhealthy for the lone dispatcher on duty. Imagine the stress and pressure of being solely responsible for handling every emergency call in our city and region! This is not a sustainable or humane way to operate a critical service. This isn't a one-time occurrence, folks. This chronic understaffing has persisted for far too long. It's time to seriously consider alternatives. Perhaps it's time to explore merging our dispatch services with a county, which already provides high-quality, reliable service to other areas. 🧐 My thoughts and sympathies go out to this lone state dispatcher who is carrying an immense burden today. ❤️🩹❤️🩹 #SparksSafety #EmergencyServices #DispatchCrisis #PublicSafety #CommunityFirst #SupportOurDispatchers Disclaimer: This post reflects my views as a concerned City Councilman in Nevada

My heart goes out to our neighbors in California who are suffering from the devastating wildfires. I'm deeply grateful for the courageous firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly to battle these blazes. I want to express my strong support for holding accountable, to the maximum extent of the law, those individuals who are responsible for starting these fires. I'm also incredibly proud that Nevada, including our brave men and women from the City of Sparks, have stepped up to offer assistance in this time of need. Let's continue to show our support and solidarity with California! #CAstrong #wildfires #NevadaStrong

My heart is heavy with the news of the recent NYE attacks in New Orleans and here in my home state in Las Vegas. I'm keeping the victims and their families in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time 🙏 🇺🇸 It's unfortunate that these terrorists try to break the our spirit, but we can combat these actions and hate with moments of humanity. We can't allow fear to keep us from gathering with our neighbors and communities. It's especially disheartening that these “men”, who once wore the uniform of our country's military, have fallen so far and given into extremism. They should never have had the privilege to represent our nation and wear our uniform. I love our community, our neighbors, and our way of life, we have to stay strong and vigilant. Despite these recent events, I am wishing everyone a beautiful new year! I hope you achieve your resolutions and wish you all success. 🫶🏻💕 #PrayForNewOrleans #PrayForLasVegas #CommunityStrong

📢 Enough is enough! 📢 Our community is under attack from drug traffickers who are poisoning our streets with deadly substances like fentanyl. This has to stop! We need to take a strong stand against these criminals. They are profiting from the suffering and death of our friends, neighbors, and family members. I support strong deterrent measures to make it clear that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our community. We need to send a message that these criminals will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I want to thank the Sparks and Reno Police Departments for their diligence in combating this issue, especially for their recent arrest that took a large amount of fentanyl off our streets. This is a huge win for Sparks and our community. We all have a role to play in keeping our community safe. If you see something, say something. If you live in Sparks, you can use the MySparks app to report suspicious activity directly to the city and remain anonymous. Let's utilize all the tools we have to keep Sparks and our region safe. Together, we can make a difference. Let's work together to keep Sparks safe and drug-free. #NoMoreDrugs #SparksSafety #FentanylCrisis #EndDrugTrafficking #SupportSparksPD #MySparks

I am deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded today at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. As a Councilman for the City of Sparks and as a father, I offer my condolences to the victims, their families, and the entire Madison community. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of school safety and the need to address violence within our society. 😔 Incidents like this highlight the complex challenges we face in ensuring the safety and well-being of our children. It is imperative that we engage in thoughtful discussions and explore comprehensive solutions to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. In the coming year of 2025 and into the next quarter of a century, no parent or child should have to worry if they are saying goodbye for the last time on their way to school. I join with communities across the nation in mourning the lives lost and impacted by this event. 😔🙏🏻
