Our new @nberpubs wp links experimentally measured #altruism of physicians to their industry payments and drugs prescribed. We find that non-altruistic docs both receive higher payments and more likely to respond by increasing branded drug prescribing than altruistic docs.
Physician responsiveness to industry payments is mostly driven by non-altruistic physicians, from Shan Huang, @JingLiUW, and @basucally
