To the folks complaining about pronouns in our gameplay overlays:
I've heard what you have to say, I understand your concerns, and I'm taking decisive action:
They're going to be 2pt bigger in the next episode.
If you want to honour Sheldon's memory, here are some ideas I know he'd love:
- Invite your close friends over, share a killer meal, and pour generously
- Donate to or volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter
- Leave 3WB up and Inkshield the shit out of someone
Just a few additional facts:
- The voices, in order, are Toby Elliott, Brian David-Marshall, Gavin Verhey, me, Olivia Gobert-Hicks, Scott Larabee, Gavin Duggan
- Sheldon hand-picked all of these cards, and it was planned well before he passed
Here is the preview video of Sheldon's Spellbook Secret Lair Drop...benefiting the benefiting the American Cancer Society.
This drop will be a Pre-order and time boxed to demand. The pre-order window will open from Feb 26, 2024 to Mar 24, 2024.

It's impossible to overstate the size of the impact Sheldon Menery has made in my life. My social life, my career -- everything.
I'm so, so fortunate to have spent as much time as I did talking to him and laughing with him. Today I'm filled with as much gratitude as I am grief.
It's okay to criticize corporate greed where it exists.
I don't see Sheldon's Spellbook as profiting off of his death because it would still be released if he were alive today to jam the cards in his decks.
Wotc if you're reading this...
I think the trend of gating powerful effects behind a lot of coloured mana is very healthy for Commander and I wish you would do it more often.
Reward players for playing narrower identities!
Looks like it’s going to be cloudy with a chance of flaming swords. My

Thanks

for allowing me to be a part of this spoiler season!

I wish the regular packs of Commander Masters were less expensive.
I'm generally okay with premium prices on luxury cosmetic stuff but I think this feels exceptionally high.
Early this morning Shan and I said goodbye to Nigel. I can't even describe how heartbroken I am.
It gives me comfort to know that he passed peacefully surrounded by love and forehead kisses.
I am going to miss him so much.
If I spend the next 70 years of my life colonizing and oppressing Indigenous people and hoarding wealth please accept this tweet as permission to make fun of me when I'm dead.
I've been thinking about doing this for a long time, and today's the day.
This is not the only step in combating religious extremist influence in politics, but it's one of them.
Periodic reminder that Spike Feeders cEDH gameplay has never been about top-tier Magic players playing cutting-edge decks.
It's always been about providing an accessible and non-threatening entry point for folks who are curious about cEDH.
If you play with a regular playgroup I highly recommend using an actual crown to track the monarch mechanic in games. It's so much better than the token.
I've seen a few incorrect assumptions about me floating around, so why not address them all in one place? Here are a few facts about me, in no particular order.
Just shut the fuck up and play some Commander.
Or don't, I'm not your mom.
It's exhausting seeing people seek out conflict where there doesn't have to be any. If you're in a bad mood log off this app, take a couple breaths, and go for a walk around the block.
The next Commander quarterly update is scheduled to coincide with the release of Bloomburrow (Jul 29). That's a long time, and I don't want people to be confused or speculate.
We have no plans to ban attractions or stickers in Commander.
Hi folks! I'm Jim, and I'm a member of the Commander Advisory Group. If you're looking to have a good faith discussion about something you think will improve Commander, I'd love to hear from you.
Everyone who has ever been on our youtube channel has given enthusiastic consent to appear on video.
It isn't complicated or difficult to respect people's wishes.
There are a lot of sweet and interesting cards in New Capenna. The art is sweet, cards feel flavourful.
I think the trend of giving green big treasure token producers is a negative one for Commander and I wish they'd ease off the gas a little.
Whenever the topic of diversity in Commander leadership comes up, there's a chorus of "why is this important?" and "do [insert ethnicity or orientation] people see cards differently?". They're so close to the point but stopping just shy of it.
Home safe and sound from the PPR, and I wanted to jot some thoughts down. Warning: This is sappy. The folks at
@LRRMtG
are so kind and so funny and so welcoming. That's the bottom line if you want to skip this one.
Show, don't tell.
You won't convince anyone that cEDH is cool and fun (which it is, for the record) by talking at them or by lashing out at the people who criticize.
Be someone people want to play Magic with. Be the reason people want to try it.
This is easily in the top 3 best vehicles ever printed for Commander, and I'm expecting my assessment on it to go up after playing it.
Wow. Wow wow wow.
I think the thing that brings me the most joy in Commander is when a card is amazing in the specific context of my deck but absolute dogshit everywhere else.
The cEDH conversation has been pretty interesting in the past couple days, and it seems like people are butting up against a concept I've been talking about for years:
Most people who play cEDH play it very casually. 🧵
Everyone on the RC had a hand in this, but it's something I've personally been working on for several years now. It's one of the main format-related things I talked about with Sheldon prior to his passing. This is going to be a (hopefully short) thread with some of my goals:
Our quarterly update is live. No changes to rules or banned list.
We've released an important update of the philosophy page, clarifying the RC's vision for the format. No change of direction, but a better explanation of what we're trying to accomplish.
Over the past year we've been putting a lot of time and resources into paying for guests to come visit us in Winnipeg. This includes travel costs, accommodations, appearance fees, and feeding them while they're here!
Commander deckbuilding advice can be both objectively correct and also unhelpful and unnecessary, especially when it's presented as some kind of orthodoxy.
If the cards you choose are making you happy, find some other people to play them with and be happy together.
It's very easy to distance yourself from white supremacy and I highly recommend you do it any time you're incidentally associated with white supremacists.
One bit of feedback I'm seeing a lot of in response to the State of the Format yesterday is that people think cEDH should split off into its own format. Here are some of my thoughts:
These two cards are pretty similar, and one is banned in Commander, so I think it's an interesting AND HYPOTHETICAL exercise to see if the kitten checks the same boxes.🧵
Spent a good portion of my afternoon reading about how the RC is a puppet organization that only exists to enact WotC's nefarious capitalist motives and also that WotC should take over commander because they would manage it better than the RC.
On Friday the groomer found a concerning lump on Nigel's neck. Today the vet confirmed it is lymphoma and we are looking at treatment options.
I brought him home at 10 weeks old. He's 11 now and this is absolutely destroying me.
Please hug your pets.
If you do see it that way I'm not going to argue with you. Walk the walk and donate directly to cancer charities and encourage others to do the same. Every dollar that goes to fighting cancer is an unequivocal win for all of us whether you get some cards out of it or not.
When I was a MTG judge I'd occasionally encounter a type of player who would ask questions with the intent to stump you or catch you on a technicality.
I see a lot of comments online about how Spike Feeders content "isn't really cEDH", and the justification is usually that we don't play exclusively meta decks, aggressively mulligan, or play flawlessly.
It's been about 2 months since Orcish Bowmasters entered the format.
How has this card impacted your games?
Have you changed your decks to play it or play against it?
IMPORTANT: Please indicate whether you are talking about casual Commander oe cEDH.

@TolarianCollege
is having a bad day today. Why not watch this video and leave a note of affirmation for him? The video rules.
Prof's been really generous with the community and me in particular, and I would consider this a personal favour. (+RT!)
If you wouldn't have otherwise donated or fundraised and you want to buy the product for the cards or the philanthropic component, that's great too.
Don't just talk. Do things.
Today it really hit me that hiring an editor and offloading a ton of work means I actually have some free time again. I actually don't remember the last time I wasn't slammed with editing and staring down tight deadlines.
I'm going to go to my LGS for commander night.
Sheldon and I talked a lot about what he's leaving behind, and I think this moment summed it up so well. It gave me goosebumps at the time and it still does.
It makes me so happy that he got to experience it.
Today we mourn the passing of a true legend and true friend.
Between Sheldon’s instrumental role in founding the Commander format and dedicated leadership on the RC, it’s safe to say none of us would be here doing what we love without him.
Thank you, and we’ll miss you.
This comment rolled in like 3 weeks ago. I'm still speechless that there are incels out there who feel strongly enough about my eyelids that they feel compelled to comment on Youtube.
I know that in today's environment there's a million versions of each card, but I wish deckbuilding and card search websites would default to the most recent:
- Standard frame, standard art
- English
- Nonfoil
- Standard border
- Real paper printing (no VMA or Alchemy)
There's a lot of luck and survivorship bias with successful channels so first I definitely have to acknowledge all of the folks who supported us and the amazing opportunities that have been given to us.
