Fascinating quiz of @MichelleObama & @RobertKennedyJr food policy statements. I am an expert on both of their food policy work. Spoiler. The only way to get these all right is luck. They are literally saying the same thing. Well done @LaurenWeberHP

It's just two days, but MAHA is off to a promising start. "Together, we will end the chronic disease epidemic and keep our children safe, healthy, and disease-free." Delighted to join @marionnestle @martinburcharth to discuss #MAHA.

A better headline would be "Which UPF should FDA/USDA be regulating?" The answer: ultra-formulations: energy dense foods designed to be overeaten (hyperpalatable). It's remarkable what we can learn if we invest in science. @DrJBhattacharya @MartyMakary

"The key to making any big change is the quality of the leadership." One question, 4 expert witnesses, & an answer. Thank you @vickyecarter & @bbcworldservice for your terrific reporting.
New year, new programme aired today. For the @bbcworldservice The Inquiry, I produced "Can RFK Jnr make America healthy again?" With special guests: @dietzwcd4 @MRBartlettNH @JerryMande and Professor Colleen Heflin from @MaxwellSU

@PostOpinions @ScottGottliebMD @llborio It’s critical that the public health community understand and accept that we are no longer operating under Jacobson v MA, but instead Griswold v CT as the governing law. Many of the covid mistakes were due to a failure to recalibrate to this change.

@gourmetmetrics @RobertKennedyJr @US_FDA @USDA @HouseAppropsGOP @AppropsGOP @SmithDanaG We did here: Al Gore considered moving it to USDA when he was VP. Congress would likely need to approve it. We need to review what happened when it was moved out of USDA in 1940. Despite the move it stayed in Ag appropriations.

@KCKlatt @RFKJr_Official You're substack is spot on, Kevin. This outstanding reporting by @hbottemiller provides more details We need to double our investment in nutrition research (+$2b), provide at least $100m for NIH ONR, and build @KevinH_PhD a 50 bed clinical trials center.

Here is an outstanding list of food policy ideas for MAHA & the incoming @RobertKennedyJr administration from the always carefully but thoughtfully evidence-driven @TamarHaspel. Let's go @drmarkhyman @RobertLustigMD @ChrisPalmerMD

@KCKlatt The political reality is that while other fields such as tobacco control have overcome their differences to enact effective regulation (youth smoking down from 25-<2%), nutrition has been busy grappling & has made zero progress on food caused chronic disease. Disruption needed.

@KCKlatt Food caused chronic disease is finally a political priority (. Nutrition world needs to step up and meet the moment. It's not the time for reflection of its shortcomings mostly due to big food's successful efforts to under fund it & confuse us.

Thank you @SteveLanceNTD for inviting me to discuss how our food is making us sick, especially our children, with food-caused chronic disease, how we can fix this, and what @RobertKennedyJr & #MAHA can do to help. (my interview starts @40:50)
Joining me is @JerryMande, CEO of Nourish Science and adjunct professor of nutrition at Harvard's School of Public Health, to discuss the health of Americans.

@jessapple @ChrisPalmerMD @MitoPsychoBio @GeorgiaEdeMD @drmclphillips @bigfatsurprise Thank you for all that you are doing, Jess! This is our moment. Keep demanding change. Children shouldn't have obesity, T2D, fatty liver disease, & other food caused chronic disease.

@gourmetmetrics @KevinH_PhD See the NIH Office of Nutrition Research budget below. Biden requested $100m. The House passed $40m; the Senate $25m. The industry adjusted number? $1m!

@Thamno @RichardsSarah0 @marionnestle @KevinH_PhD Great points. But today UPF has resulted in declining US lifespans and sick children. The marketplace doesn't provide sufficient incentives for big food to make food we will thrive on. Gov't needs to add health to taste, cost, convenience as their north stars.

@jondel747 @KevinH_PhD We regulated youth smoking and we reduced it from 25% to < 2%. True U.S. exceptionalism. We can have the same success with child obesity following the same playbook.

@jondel747 @KevinH_PhD Yes, but parents vs big food's $2bn in kids marketing doesn't seem fair. Parents are losing. 20% children have obesity. 18% pre-diabetes. Fatty liver disease increasing fastest in children.
