From #methylation array analysis of paired fresh, frozen and FFPE #cardiac tissue, we found DNA methylation levels to be overestimated in FFPE tissue compared to fresh and frozen tissue. We thus advise against direct comparisons of DNAm from differently stored cardiac tissue.

The storage method of biopsies has a great impact on subsequent molecular analysis and may ultimately lead to false conclusions. We compared gene expression analysis by WTS of paired fresh, frozen, and FFPE tissues and show that caution needs to be taken!

DNA methylation is associated with many diseases. However, methods for detecting DNA are relatively expensive and sensitive to tissue quality. We developed a very simple tool to evaluate if the tissue is of sufficient quality for DNA methylation. #DNAm
