If you want to run an idol festival or showcase, you should have between 6-10 acts depending on the format.
I think 8 is the sweet spot to get a good variety and keep the crowd interested.
Anything more is going to be difficult to handle and hard to keep an audience for.

Everyone has their own opinion on exactly how much you should follow what idols in Japan are doing to be considered a Japanese inspired idol, but I feel like the replies in this thread don’t have enough focus on the actual “idol” part.
been thinking about this and I wonder what would make kaigai idols (American mostly) more appealing to “normal” idol fans (jpop idols, 2d or 3d). What draws you to an idol? Do English songs turn you off? I just wonder about these things seeing how crowds are mostly other idols

And while we’re at it: give cosplay idols more credit. I’m really sick of seeing con events give them the shit end of the stick. If you want an event targeting cosplay idols- learn about the community. Learn what they care about. Don’t just treat these events like Masq 2.0

I love performing on stage, but the reason I love idols and going to idol shows is that it’s completely intoxicating. I love cheering in the audience, giving my full energy to in support of the person on stage to not just do their best but to have fun and live out their dreams.

You can be eye catching and have a nice voice and get a lot of attention, but learning about the personality and watching someone grow as a performer is probably what makes you feel most connected to the idols you already love-whether they’re in Japan or not.

I say this without an ounce of shade. You want your event to be a good experience for the performers and for the audience, and you also want it to be a good experience for yourself. That just becomes harder to achieve with more acts.

Would anyone like if I made a quick how to on applying for con related idol events? I’ve noticed a lot of errors and strange choices in applications for this year, even with experienced acts, and I’d love to help set people up for success in future events.

If anyone missed this in my replies, that tweet is not strictly about the CCE Idolfest-I did not watch it this year and only caught some of the con run one last year.
Learning that they had 30 acts led to me writing out what I’ve said many times before to newer show runners.

To answer the question on how to be “appealing”, I very much think you should make sure you feel authentic in a way where people believe they know you, and you should also feel accessible whether it’s through a lot of in person performances or, better yet, online.

The Today Show just did a story about kids who are caregivers to adults and all of the problems this causes in them, and my heart breaks for them.
My single mom became disabled when I was 14 and she was really sick the first few years, and she became my responsibility.

There are kaigai idols who are following the mold to be successful in Japan, but unless your goal is to learn Japanese, move there, and work a normal job while auditioning for companies, the mold is probably not something you should be following to find “success” in this.

I truly believe organizers have good intentions when they put a lot of acts in their line ups. We all want to give as many people a slot as possible, but that’s usually at the expense of the audience’s and performers’ experience, and always at the expense of your own sanity.

COSPlaylist is an Idol Festival for CosIdols based off of standard Idol Festival format for performers looking for a non competitive way to perform on stage. Acts are given just as much time as standard idols festivals because that is a need that is not regularly met.

If you can’t make it to Japan to see this year’s TIF, why not head to Washington DC that same weekend to see the biggest weekend of Idol programming in the states, Idolspace at Otakon?
The Tokyo Idol Festival (TIF) have started to announce their first groups for 2024. These include FRUITS ZIPPER, Devil ANTHEM., , Niji no Conquistador, NEO JAPONISM, PIGGS, and WASUTA. The event runs from August 2nd to 4th.
