“Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” is a large sculpture from my Antiquity series. Farnese Hercules was originally made in the 4th century BC. A Roman copy was made in the early 4th century AD and found in 1546 in Rome.  “Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” was realized in plaster made from a mold of the Roman copy. I placed a blue glass gazing ball on Hercules’s shoulder to affirm the viewer and the sculpture. The ball and its reflection for me ends up representing absolutely everything that is and can be, all at once.   “Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” (2013) plaster and glass, 128 1/2 x 67 x 48 5/8 inches, 326.4 x 170.2 x 123.5 cm © Jeff Koons Edition of 3 plus 1 AP. This image comes from a photo that I shot of the actress Gretchen Mol as Bettie Page for The New York Times Magazine. Gretchen is an amazing actress, who starred in Mary Harron’s film The Notorious Bettie Page. I used an inflatable lobster to represent both masculine and feminine qualities of the internal and external world. I made a print edition of the image with a hand drawing of The Origin of the World on top in silver.    “Girl with Lobster” Portfolio by Jeff Koons (2006) © Jeff Koons #jeffkoons #GirlwithLobster #GretchenMol #BettiePage #photograph #printedition #TheNotoriousBettiePage #MaryHarron #TheNewYorkTimes #TheNewYorkTimesMagazine #lobster #art #readymade #artist #surrealism #popart #contemporaryart #popculture #drawing #gesture #Courbet #GustaveCourbet #TheOriginoftheWorld #Duchamp #MarcelDuchamp #Dalí #SalvadorDali #HCWestermann #Westermann #Popeye

“Hanging Heart (Red/Gold)” installed in the Queen’s Staircase in Versailles. Hanging Heart is from the Celebration series, the series as a whole represents the cyclical time of a year and different images or sculptures could represent a celebrated part of the cycle such as birthdays, anniversaries, or Valentine’s Days. The work also to me references the essence of humanity and romance.   “Hanging Heart (Red/Gold)” (1994–2006), mirror-polished stainless steel with transparent color coating, 114 5/8 x 110 1/4 x 40 inches, 291 x 280 x 101.5 cm, plus ribbon at variable length © Jeff Koons, Photos by Laurent Lecat. Today, the studio is posting to wish Jeff a very Happy 70th Birthday! Jeff has been part of our artistic culture over the last fifty years! It is hard to think of the world today without a Balloon Dog, Rabbit, Puppy, Michael Jackson and Bubbles, an Equilibrium Tank, or Play-Doh. We want to wish him the happiest of birthdays!   #jeffkoons #happybirthday #1955 #january #cake #balloon #dolphin #sun #70 #70thbirthday #aquarius #celebration #birthday #bornonthisday #artist #balloons #contemporaryart #pennsylvania #newyork

“Tulips” like all my balloon sculptures, for me, reference our internal body organs. Even though they have the appearance of a party balloon, at the same time, they can be viewed as an internal organ membrane.     “Tulips” (1995-2004) mirror-polished stainless steel with transparent color coating, 80 x 180 x 205 inches, 203.2 x 457.2 x 520.7 cm, one of five unique versions © Jeff Koons Exhibition view. Hi! “Winter Bears” is a wooden sculpture which was created in 1988 as part of the Banality series. As a couple they are holding a heart, which could represent anything from the Sacred Heart of Jesus to a Paul McCartney love song.   “Winter Bears” (1988) polychromed wood, 48 x 44 x 15 1/2 inches, 121.9 x 111.8 x 39.4 cm, Edition of 3 plus 1 AP © Jeff Koons #jeffkoons #winterbears #banality #sculpture #wood #art #ArtistRooms #tate #tatecollection #nationalgalleriesofScotland #1988 #sacredheart #contemporaryart
