@PeteOlusoga Where do you find him, he's hilarious! I had no idea that so many everyday behaviours involved asserting dominance over inanimate objects. Mind you, I am a woman, and so totally not his target demographic.

@HPluckrose That was a helpful piece. Understanding that feelings are often unrelated to reality can be difficult, and both reassuring and unnerving at times.

@NHM_London We had a discussion at work the other day, and I argued that plants that inject their toxins, like nettle and the stinging trees in Dendrocnide, are venomous. This did not find universal agreement, but my colleagues couldn't find clear grounds to disagree either. Any comments?

@HPluckrose Awesome. I can't wait for my nephew to dissect my brother's (scientific illustrator) and SIL's (running journalist) professions so incisively. Although I don't suppose I'll get away with it either. I do hope he'll approve of newts though.

Perfect timing for the first day of #HWM2025 in Sheffield. And for those who weren't at @alicepawlik's biosecurity workshop, don't kiss snakes!
Well in the USA itβs national serpent day, which is an excuse to show this mosaic of a boy playing with snakes from Syria, 5th century CE in the Louvre. Heβs clearly inspired by the myth of the infant Heracles but needs to be very carefulβ¦
