Hi! I draw speculative biology and write about everyday life in a complex scifi setting. You can read my comics, support my work, and browse my art at these links:

Ok so, I finally found a way to combine my obsessions with upsetting centaurs and 4-dimensional geometry, and his name is Horace. I will be taking questions now
FIRST CONTACT, a short story from Runaway to the Stars. Talita, having grown up in human foster care, was about 5 years old before she met another centaur. 1/3
Centaur aliens start small and don't stay that way. As an infant, Talita was left in a cat carrier on the doorstep of a human youth foster care facility. After some chaos, a worker named Douglas Esteves took charge of her care.
Young Talita doodles with Douglas the foster worker. Kids are so sweet before they start having opinions! Her alarm call sounds like a fire alarm with low batteries, her cry is like a small dog’s growl pitched down. Her voice at this age is warbling and unnervingly high-pitched.
Made a big post on tumblr about the evolution of legs in terrestrial vertebrates, and how to use it to speculate on the legs an extremely large bug might evolve.
Centaurs' evolutionary ancestors were savanna pack predators who nomadically followed prey herds. Modern centaurs emerged when they began to use tools to help with hunting and land management, eventually resulting in some groups settling down and developing animal agriculture.
The Runaway is a fusion torchship with a habitat module that adapts between 1g of thrust and 0g while parked, but cooking is definitely more challenging without "gravity"...
Centaur matriarchs are responsible for bearing and nursing larva, but after the litter pupates child-care usually gets passed off to the entourage who sired them.
The gang pranks Sirawit, who is too innocent to yet know the horrors of the world. They’re 17, which for avians is about 25 yo in terms of human cognitive development, but that’s not the same thing as worldly experience...
This year’s Almost Real mythology themed, so I wanted the cover critter to be a weird take on an extremely recognizable beast. The marsupial griffin is my shot at that, a large flying carnivore with a rear-facing pouch like a thylacine.
The avian homeplanet has permanent sea ice at both of its poles. In the north the dominant ecosystem on these shifting ice 'dunes' is globe moss, conglomerate balls of plants and photosynthetic worms.
Talita is a weird fringe case with very human habits, so here’s some examples of more typical centaur alien gestures of affection and facial expressions.
A centaur from the Shess ethnicity poses with their clan's small flock of Tep, a livestock animal that is farmed for its meat and cheese-like edible silk. Hanging off their foreshoulder is a 2 meter long black powder rifle for warding off wildlife that likes to eat Tep.
Talita’s childhood best friend, Sorrel. His stripes are from his mom's side of the family, there's a lot of artificial traits floating around in the main human gene pool in RttS.

Character concepts for a short story on the centaur homeplanet I haven't had time to work on. Maulu has a congenital weakness in his hind legs and uses a uniwheel support to get around.
New short comic up on Patreon. When Talita first arrived at the human foster care home in a pet carrier, it was a chilly January night in the Garriton cylinder of Nexus Jovia…
Freshly baked breads from various planets. Some aliens are better at tucking up all their limbs than others. And yes I have Gillie the GMO catgirl standing in for humans, she’s close enough.
Everyone makes fun of medieval manuscript artists for drawing terrible elephants and giraffes based on travelers' rumors until they have to draw a horse with no reference
Been redoing some of the almost 10-yo refs of the RttS aliens. NSFW...? Thread contains alien nudity.
Avians are a genus of 5 sapient species that evolved on a watery planet. Skimmers are the most populous species by far, native to a large archipelago in the northern hemisphere.
Skimmers tend to have strict modesty rules, but not all avian cultures do. Pygmy avians are native a chain of balmy subtropical islands and the majority of them don't wear anything besides shoes, bags, and jewelry.
Bug ferrets are very expressive, but humans tend to have trouble reading them unless they know what to look for. Feat. Pinkie, the grouchy electrician.
The back of a centaur’s head is mostly air. The long mane feathers mask the effect but the only significant organ back there is the vocal lungs, which can puff out the back of the neck even further. Centaurs visibly inhale into their neck before speaking.
Tiiliitian is an avian alien language where any vowel can form a two-note chord pattern. To speak it, Idrisah the xenotranslator uses a keyboard device that records her voice and plays it with an altered pitch pattern.
Runaway to the Stars is finally releasing as a public webcomic! It'll be updating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday thanks to the massive Patreon backlog. Patreon will continue to update as I finish pages.
It's the
#YearOfTheTiger
! Gillie is an orange-haired cat(girl) and Talita is a large striped carnivore, so close enough, right? Maybe if Talita puts more effort in...
Got a Patreon request for some centaur alien tools. Centaur society (particularly the Shess ethnicity) had electricity before first contact, but not sophisticated handheld electrical tools.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Here’s Shyam and Talita the engineers being dweebs. Shyam doesn’t know ASL and Talita isn’t fluent in Hindi but they are both expressing love here.
Zngti (aka hawkdogs) are an omnivorous predator domesticated by centaurs. In some ways they're more comparable to cats than dogs, often left unsupervised around settlements to hunt vermin, but their territoriality also makes them useful for livestock defense or sentry roles.
Six years later. Transitioning away from the youth care facility Douglas Esteves works at to a teen foster home was rough on Talita for many reasons. Teenagers are not very good at handling rejection or rejecting.
Centaur aliens grow tusk-like antlers once a year from their lower jaw. Their evolutionary purpose is ambiguous, but they seem to mostly be a social indicator of age, health, and sexual status.
I started drawing a reference for Talita’s work gear (a pressurized exosuit and Fall Arrest System harness for working on scaffolding) but then got distracted and started drawing her in cute little dresses instead. She has a semi-official reference now, I guess?
