In it, he claimed that vaccines provide "no benefit" to previously infected individuals and that it is "unethical to vaccinate them." Numerous studies including ours have shown that vaccines confer substantial protection to people with prior infection.

Years ago (studying TB risk), we gave wearable, GPS-tracking CO2 sensors to students in Cape Town to quantify 'rebreathed air' across various locations. Schools were the highest risk sites. Here's a sample 24-hour trace. See the CO2 spikes and drops going into out of classrooms.

#CROI2023 : Treatment for tuberculosis, a leading cause of death worldwide, typically involves 6 months of continuous therapy. In the TRUNCATE-TB trial, a strategy involving shorter initial treatment was noninferior to standard treatment.

Paraguay's prisons have among the highest TB rates in the world. In the Ciudad del Este regional prison, ~6% of residents are diagnosed with Xpert+ active TB each year, despite no active case finding or on-site diagnostics. True burden likely twice as high. 1/3

Nice study out of MGH/BWH found Paxlovid reduced hospitalization or death among vaccinated pts. Investigators mitigated immortal time bias by selecting pts not meeting endpoint 2 days from dx (which reduced event rate & made NNT appear larger than is).

Great piece on coccidioidomycosis (valley fever), a growing health threat in the western states. It is one of these most difficult diseases we manage in infectious diseases and new tools are not coming quickly enough. @JulieParsonnet @katwalter7

@jlsalinas7 Agree, was always surprised by the high household SAR of norovirus and skeptical of the "aerosolized vomit" hypothesis as a driver, though there was an interesting study 2 years ago supporting it: air sample norovirus RNA positivity by hours post-vomit.
