The Syrian conflict is one of the worst humanitarian disasters this century: between 350,000 - 607,000 people have been killed (UN & SOHR official records, but many deaths uncounted); 11m people have been displaced. 90% of those in Syria live below the poverty line. 3/

"Even though Israeli citizenship is part of our colonisation, we are bound to it, and we are forced to fight for it." Important read on the precarity and paradox of Israeli citizenship for '48 Palestinians, by @Lana_Tatour

Some thoughts on the structural violence of Israeli citizenship for ‘48 Palestinians & on the paradox of what it means to be dependent on the citizenship of the state that colonizes us so we can survive & remain in our homeland. ⁦⁦ @AJEnglish

We'd also like to acknowledge those who were on the project (covering e.g S.America, ) but sadly withdrew due to bereavement, illness & other challenges. They played an important part in the conversation & we hope they publish their articles in future. 19/

I wrote for @Amaliah_Tweets about how the #trojanhorseaffair witch-hunt illustrates the impossibility of Muslim civic activism in a system invested in working class Muslims remaining forever an underclass

- Colonial practice has also shaped knowledge production in academia/ museums/ schools - The complicity between colonial policies/knowledge can be (and has been) challenged by expanding what we view as knowledge & who we view as experts. Open Access: 3/3

- The 'gap' between academia and policy can be overstated. - Academic knowledge has historically been used to justify and supply colonial policies 2/

A timely book by @AbozaidahmedM exploring the colonial roots of counterterrorism in Egypt and its use as a tool of state repression by the current regime.

After yrs of struggle (& not just writing the manuscript), it’s unbelievable to see my new book out w/ ⁦ @Rout_PoliticsIR ⁩ & Critical Terrorism Studies series. First to address more than 100 yrs of state repression under the name of counterterrorism🧵
