I facetime my mom before every interview. She’s usually finishing up her night shift as a cashier at CVS, always so excited to see me dressed professionally-something she’s never experienced. I am overwhelmed with gratitude that I have the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
The other day I was asked if I’d be interested in being a cycle instructor. Starting salary was 70K to work about 25 hours of week. The look on the manager’s face when I told her I made less than that as a doctor working 80 hours a week……priceless.
Major perk of residency is that international travel becomes WAY easier.
-what is jet lag? I haven’t had a circadian rhythm in 2 years 💁🏻♀️
- I can sleep anywhere for 13 hours straight if given the time, including middle row economy 😂
It’s all thanks to the immense sacrifices my parents made to be in this country. As difficult as this process can be at times, it’s been such a humbling experience. I am so honored that this is the life I live & I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

It’s truly an honor to share that I have matched
#GenSurgMatch2021
. I am overwhelmed with excitement & gratitude. I am so thankful to my little support village-family, friends and mentors. To those who didn’t match, keep your head up and my DMs are always open 🥰
And we are off to start this new chapter! Major shout out to my mom for helping me move to Dallas (isn’t she the cutest with her sparkly mask 😂).
@UTSW_Surgery
@UTSWSurgeryLife
see you soon!!
Name it. Stage it. Treat it. The happy faces of CUH Surg Onc. Learned so much this month both on the floor and in the OR thanks to this “Boss” team & faculty. Going to miss it 😢
Day 1 of intern year: ✔️. I got almost every question wrong on rounds BUT I did successfully place my first arterial line! Feeling lucky that I have such a fantastic (and patient 😂) team. Best first day I could have asked for.
I “met”
@ErinAlyseAdams
on the interview trail. She was always reminding me about time zones for interviews😂. Lucky for me we matched together & finally met in person. Cant wait to see all the great things we accomplish along with the rest of the co-interns!
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Me .5 seconds after med school graduation: “HI CALL ME DOCTOR, IM A DOCTOR”
Me the first week of July: *whispers* “so like technically I’m a doctor but that was an mistake I’m more like a fifth year medical student” 😂😂
Still riding my match day high! Getting cheered onto the stage & then getting met with hugs right after is just a glimmer of how awesome my med school family is. I’m going to miss this group so much & I can’t wait to impose aggressive friendship on
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Today marks my last interview of 2020 and mom is definitely excited for me 😂(isn’t she the cutest?). My sincerest thanks to all of the programs I’ve had the privilege to meet over the season so far. I have gained A LOT more inspiring surgeons to look up to!
#GenSurgMatch2021
Today concludes my time with the man who taught us all how to suture, perform our first hernias and choles. So forever thankful for my day surgery experience with Dr.Turner over the last two years. He’s truly a

gem!
Well, I’m officially a

applicant! Good luck to everyone applying this cycle, wishing us all a fruitful application season. We got this💪🏼
#MedStudentTwitter
Parents are so cute, I visited my dad this weekend and he made sure to tell EVERYONE (I mean everyone-including the mailman) that his daughter is a “surgeon visiting all the way from Dallas”
Meanwhile my 1 month and 3 weeks intern self is in the background like:
I spent the last month operating with

. I will miss nothing more than our
@UTSW_Surgery
“national treasure” Dr.Turner & my incredibly supportive (and boss surgeon) R2
@amandamgarza
. Truly the dream team!
It’s happening! Thank you so much to all of the
#GenSurgMatch2021
programs I’ve had the honor to spend time with throughout this season. Major‼️shoutout to all of my mentors for helping me put this list together. Good luck to my colleagues submitting lists today, we got this! 💪🏼
🌟 We're elated to announce our 2⃣0⃣2⃣4⃣ Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship Residency Matches❗️A warm welcome to these two talented young surgeons as they begin this exciting chapter with us. Here's to a journey filled with growth and success!

Being the EGS PGY3 has to be the best part of being a resident here. Operating until the board is cleared, family dinners and communicating via our social battery pins are just some of the highlights. Thankful to the best team for a ~highly operative~ month! 🐳
@UTSW_Surgery
representing at
@ISHLT
today! Grateful for the opportunity to present our work on VV-ECMO
@Parkland
during the pandemic. Shoutout to my mentors, especially
@heid_md
for making this possible!
@TekeMartha
Thank you, Dr.Teke! I know our parents are so proud of us. Most of the time people come to this country for betterment of their children, not themselves. Growing up in this selflessness makes us better doctors-in my humble opinion. Thanks for your encouraging words😃
My favorite class of med school so far is definitely ASS (Advanced Surgical Skill 👀) today we worked on bowel anastomoses led by
@USFsurgery
@JaimeESanchezMD
@chrisducoin
. Best way to spend a Tuesday afternoon!
A special day for Chief Hegde, her last TASC call shift EVER! An honor to have spent multiple months learning how to operate from the best. I insisted on feeding her the cake, FYI
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Finished my registration and things are starting to get real! Excited and nervous for what lies ahead. Good luck to all my colleagues!
#GenSurgMatch2021
This group of surgeons-to-be just finished our last test of medical school!! ASS (Advanced Surgical Skill 👀) has been a blast, so proud to call these classmates my future OR colleagues! Thanks for the great month

First month of residency in the books! Thanks to the best team for making my transition to intern year an educational, immersive and enjoyable experience. I have learned so much but still have SO much more to go!
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Our FIRST intern take over is starting with
@JasminaEhab
!!!
She has an interest in CT and is passionate about aggressive friendship, spin classes & her disdain for cowboy boots +scrubs.
Join her tomorrow to see what antics she gets into!
Prepping for trauma next month by listening to
@BehindTheKnife
podcasts when I heard the familiar voices of
@CPark_MD
&
@RPDumasMD
. Suddenly I was paying A LOT more attention to POCUS 😂. Love that the surgical community gets to learn from these
@UTSW_Surgery
legends alongside me
Update on the pen saga: there is no better text from your night co-tern who goes searching for your pen. Another reason why
@UTSWSurgeryLife
is the best..
@RKouzyMD
Just a bunch of
@USFHealthMed
grads at
@UTSW_Surgery
. Nothing better than having my favorite humans from medical school alongside me. And of course we are eternally grateful to our fearless leader
@dallastrauma
for making sure we have the best training in the country. 🤟🏼
Our future intern coaching me through robotic GJ anastomosis. Can’t wait to return the favor and coach you through some cases next year!! We are so excited to have you join us,
@AndresAbreuMD
.
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Thank you
@Levi_Lab
for taking the time to meet us and share your sage wisdom! We had so much fun celebrating our self proclaimed “national intern morning” with you!
@UTSWSurgeryLife
@UTSW_Surgery
TASC family dinner, minus the rest of the team, plus Dr. Tannous’ new cowboy boots. Regrouping as a team over dinner is the second best part of call (the first best part is all the operating 😈)
@UTSWSurgeryLife
October TASC 3 team strikes again with the matching Halloween team scrub caps, this time we managed to get the whole team up to the roof in between traumas and cases before sunset which is

It was such an honor to have been chosen to give our farewell speech. I’ve had the best four years with my classmates and I’m going to miss our lil family so much 🥺

Successful month on Parkland colorectal surgery! Thankful to this incredible group for a month of growth of managing complex patients AND performing robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. As a resident, I’m always humbled on how much there is to know-lucky to learn it from the best!
I remember when
@BuzzinNats
and I were interns in intern bootcamp…now we are rising 3s/rising research resident leading intern bootcamp 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@UTSWSurgeryLife
Shout out to PGY-2
@JasminaEhab
holding it down and answering questions and leading intern through the management of complex patients. It's easy to forget how much we have learned over the past year.
In the past 24 hours, “I” have operated in the thoracic cavity, the pelvis and the abdomen. Best 24 hours ever! Safe to say I made the right choice with General Surgery
#GenSurgMatch2021
Shout-out to
@luxshahmd
for offering me a place to sleep last night so i didn't have to risk my life driving on ice. Also big ups to Khan Nguyen for coming to pick me up when my car got stuck in ice so that I could take my ABSITE...
July 1, PGY1:
@RPDumasMD
was my attending & asked me how to read a CXR, I responded “from top to bottom”. 🫠🤦🏻♀️
July 1, PGY2: reading & interpreting CXRs & making decisions on patient care.
Day 1 interns, good luck today & embrace the mistakes-you’re here to learn & grow!
Recieved the proofs to my first ever textbook chapter today (yes, I am internally screaming). Check us out in Netter’s Infectious Diseases *soon*. Incredibly thankful to my mentor
@DanielAnayaMD
for this opportunity & continuous support!
@MHepatobiliary
@USFHealthMed
@UTSWSurgeryLife
love helipad pics, shout out to Chief Jennings for her last TASC call-EVER! (We thought this pose would distract from how squinty we look- we were wrong)
Shoutout to our fellow Brett who spent the month walking us through surgeries AND survived the EGS1 womance (like bromance, but better). Couldn’t have asked for a better team to drain, amputate and work on my lap skills with 💙
@UTSWSurgeryLife
When does the human body become adjusted to q3 call? Asking for a friend who spends all her time eating cheese and sleeping when she’s not on call/precall 🙄
And that’s the end of a 24 hour call! We are grateful to have the honor to take care of our patients at Parkland and a team dynamic where we appreciate, respect and help each other out. More importantly we have so much fun with one another!
Whenever patients tell me that I’m always like “OH THANK YOU I’D LIKE TO THANK SUNSCREEN, BOTOX AND MEDICAL GRADE RETINOL” and they are always like 👀👀👀👀👀👀 and I’m always like 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Best day at

@UTSWSurgeryLife
One of the first things you learn when rounding on patients in the morning is that the first light switch you flip on never turns on the light you actually want to turn on. This won’t change for the entirety of your career.
