One of my earliest memories, is one of my first days of kindergarten. We had just started our day when someone came into our class, whispered something to my teacher and walked out. I remember as if it was yesterday, the instant anguish on my teachers face. I remember being confused as to why we were having our parents pick us up. I remember not being able to comprehend what was happening. But I remember the feeling. I remember how everything felt dark that day. I remember every adult around me being scared. I remember my dad hugging me tighter than he did when he dropped me off that morning. I didn't know where New York was, but I assumed it must have been like an hour away. I remember being confused thinking so many people must have known someone who worked in the towers. It didn't make sense back then, why a plane crash would cause the end of my school day. Or why it got my dad the day off work. I do not understand it, but I felt it. And I felt what came the next day. I felt the love and community that followed. Everyone just felt kinder. People smiled with their eyes when they passed by. I heard stories of airplanes coming to my city and strangers staying in our hotels. I remember a retired firefighter did a presentation at my school a week later, we got to see the truck and one of my classmates got to turn the siren on. I'm 28 now. I still haven't learned the words to describe what I felt that September. Collective pain, but collective love and humanity. In a different country on the opposite coast, what happened to strangers impacted us too. I've watched the documentaries, I've heard that one phone call of a passengers last moments. I understand what terrorism is and that the world is a complicated place. And up until a couple months ago, I knew that Americans and Canadians were the same people with different passports. I understood how proud it made me to be Canadian, knowing that as America shut down their airspace, we redirected all air traffic to us, took care of our neighbours, and I still watch the 9/11 memorial service on tv, every year. I haven't felt that unity feeling since then. I never imagined I'd feel that darkness either. And I never imagined it would come from the ones we stood beside all those years ago. That Press secretary is younger than I am, married to man older than my father. She clearly doesn't remember that day. But I do. Canadians do. Many Americans do. And I trust that a time will come, when we get to feel that unity again. And America, we will be waiting for you, when you remember what hides in that dark. Democracy dies there. And you're in the pilot's seat.

Hey Paul, @PaulMitchell_AB Your racism and superiority complex doesnt get to dictate what "patriotism" means. I grew up in this country. I competed in international sports competitions and represented this country. My grandfather and uncle fought for this country. Why the fuck does celebrating that, in a moment where a foreign government is literally threatening to make it "cease to exist" mean I'm smug? America has Upper East side wealthy trust fund babies, California surfer dudes, genius black women studying at Harvard and Appalachian farmboys who didn't graduate the tenth grade. Just because someone's life looks different, just because they talk different, just because they have different political beliefs, DOES NOT MEAN they can't be proud Americans. What language someone speaks in their own house and what God they pray too has no bearing about how I feel about My country. I'm angry about the cost of living and overcrowded hospitals too, but I still love this country and you don't get to decide the level of authenticity I have when I say that. Do you love where you live? Do you care about its wellbeing? Do you feel a sense of belonging? Would you protect it if you had to? Notice how none of those have anything to do with your stance on abortion, or size of government, or how high you think taxes should be? You must be exhausted holding onto all that hatefulness all the time.
The only thing more insufferable than the smug 🇨🇦 left is... that smug 🇨🇦 left now feigning patriotism after spending the last decade destroying the 🇨🇦 identity and turning our society into a mass-migration "post national state". The hypocrisy and absurdity is off the charts.

@mattjohnstonca Yeah I miss debating real conservatives. It's not as fun replying "climate change is real" and "that's not how the separation of powers works, ***** is a provincial jurisdiction" and being called a commie pedophile who wants to chop off kids body parts.

Single handily saved Canada? Tell me, after spending a week in Washington and praying with the trump cult, how do I we get 25% tariffs on steel the day after? After she visited trump in Florida, the next day he was on camera saying how they don't need our oil. Are you that ignorant you think she actually "saved" canada?
